This and the EQ video have made the module much less intimidating, and has really brought out the best in my custom kit. Thanks for sharing. Do you plan or have a video outlining the pad settings such as sensitivity, threshold and curve for the TD17?

Glad the videos could help! I don't have anything in the works right now for that but it'll probably end up being a video down the line. Justin at 65 Drums did do a good general video explaining these settings a couple of years ago, worth seeking it out if you haven't seen it already.

I went to the music store tonight and layered a snare drum and it sounded so much better... I'm beginning to like the TD-17 more and more ESPECIALLY after I added the maximum level of tape to reach Tom Tom. I stopped at think three pieces of tape because the felt was too much. That trick literally made the tom-toms. Otherwise I find myself not wanting to play the tom-toms at all because they just ring out coming through the floor speaker.

Very usefull. Thanks a lot. I still struggle with the compressor settings in my TD 17. I only find the Low Fi compressor in the multifx setting. But i dont quite know how to use it. There is no gain, threshold, attack time etc. to adjust. Am a bit confused.
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately a "normal" compressor isn't built into the TD-17, you have to go up to a 27 or higher for that option, where the regular compressor is part of the main signal chain rather than by a multifx. The best results I've had with the Lo-Fi compressor are setting the Pre-filter and Lo-Fi Type to 1 (makes the effect more subtle), turn off the Post Filter, boost the High Gain and have the level somewhere around 70, then see how it sounds when sending each instrument.

I've really only played electronic drums for this past year mostly due to being stuck at home. Im still learning but I want to upgrade from a td15 module but not sure if the td 27 would be to complicated for a beginner that know just the basics but will learn. I love the digital ride should I get the td17 or the 27. I know it's off topic but I'm asking lol thanks
@karenbrazzel7742

I have the td17 and for a beginner and intermediate I think it has everything you need and you can make it sound really good with layering and buying his custom kits
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
The 27 certainly has a lot of options so it could put off some people, but I think your "but will learn" is the right approach! It sounds ok out of the box but it does have a very different "sound character" to the 15. It can be pushed a lot further though. Also, the way they've laid out the module workflow makes it much easier to get a handle on than something like the TD-50. It was still made with the "home user" in mind. As someone who has owned a TD-15 in the past, I'm not sure if the 17 might feel more like a sideways move than an upgrade. It's newer and has some great features that the 15 doesn't (Bluetooth, layering, EQ & Ambience knobs on the front), but it also lacks a few of the simple functions (like a dedicated headphone volume control, no "pad copy" function, probably a couple of other minor things). That's not to say you wouldn't enjoy it though - as Karen says, it's a great module that covers a lot of ground with what it does. I try not to give direct buying advice but I think if it was me and I thought I would get a few months in and be pining for the digital ride, I'd maybe consider getting the 27. Try and watch some feature videos and read the manuals though if possible as that'll give you a better idea.

If you are willing to spend the extra 500 bucks I’d get the td27 that’s if you are just buying the module.

Do you found that samples sound completely different inside the TD50? I have layered all sound of a kit but when I add a sample on a pad it sound completely different from what it sound in a daw! All settings are off...Could it depend from the fact I use only direc out?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
I do find that they can sound a bit different, yes. When you layer them over a Roland sound, they definitely sound different because of that Roland sound, but I also feel like they sound a little less "bright" even when they aren't layered. Especially if you then compare them to a Roland sound. Sometimes I end up "optimising" my samples for use on Roland modules (especially when layering) by exaggerating certain frequencies with EQ and compression.

Ah...ok...so it’s not me!😅😅😅 Do you eq the sample before importing? Can you suggest some eq tips for samples to import in the TD50? I found they loose all the character and quality I imported for!
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, it's hard to give advice as it will depend on the sample and how you want it to be used (layered or not, etc) but generally I'll end up going back to the PC with my samples a couple of times to tweak them if I need to. If they sound a bit dull, boost the high-mids/top end etc. I do a bit of testing with my module hooked up to the computer via MIDI and cross-referencing that way so I don't have to literally get on the kit every time I want to tweak. However, sometimes you've got to play the sample yourself to fully work it out, so it really can be trial and error.
@marcogiusfredi6552
@marcogiusfredi6552 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Yes ... I imagined ... but I have the module in the rehearsal room and the computer at home so it is not possible for me to do such a thing! I thought of a different procedure: since the TD50 probably modifies all imported sounds in the same way (by applying an equalization) I could record the samples directly from the TD50 output and then compare them with the original samples in a daw to find the differences in the equalization and extrapolate an equalization curve that applies to all samples. It should work?! Among other things, that found should be a "universal" equalization to be applied to all the sounds imported into the TD50 so that they sound faithful to the original ....
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good solution, yeah! I'll have to try that myself at some point as it would be interesting to see exactly what is happening there rather than just doing it on a case-by-case basis. Good luck with the experimenting, let me know what you find if you get chance!

1:47 how did you get fade3 on a td27?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 16 күн бұрын
It was available on v1 but removed when the v2 update happened. Fade2 used to end at 127 and Fade3 ended at 127+32, but the new "Fade End" setting negated the distinction. Since you can set your own custom end point up to 127+32, Fade3 was removed.

@@TheeDrumWorkshop do you know what I can do to make the snare sound any better? Can I assign a sound to the snare rim?
@TheeDrumWorkshop
@TheeDrumWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
When I had my review kit, I used EQ, the Transient settings and the Overheads to improve the sounds. I've got an EQ video on the channel, will have videos on the others in the future. You can assign sounds to the rim, yeah. You will need to turn off the H&R/head and rim link, tap the snare rim then change the sound. The manual will explain these functions.
