Funny story about the leeks. I grew some American flag leeks from seed like I did my onions but completely forgot that I planted them in a couple raised beds and kept wondering where the elephant garlic was coming from because I had a dedicated bed for it. I pulled it out Monday and was about to throw it in the compost pile because they didn't bulb. Then I remembered the flag leeks and they were huge, I didn't blanche mine either because I was thinking the onion seeds had garlic seeds in it. Since I needed the beds for something else I took them all out and some of them were monsters, they were loving the all purpose AgroThrive. I chopped them up, put them in a ziplock bag and stored them in the freezer. I really like leek and potato soup but prefer it in the winter. However that's on tomorrow's menu with some fried cornbread and smoked ham and some cold iced tea.

We have eaten leek and garlic leaves for years, they are delicious. We cut them up and put them in the freezer to use in soups, stews , stir fries, scrambled eggs, chowders and more. We also do the same with onion leaves, we cut them about 2 inches above onion and set onion aside to cure and we chop up the green onion leaves and freeze them as well.

The leeks tops are edible and actually cook down pretty well too. They just may need a few extra minutes. You only need to cut the top 2 inches. I know the greens aren’t technically being wasted when going back to the garden, but you can definitely get more from your leeks. They’re also good in flavoring poultry.

I've never grown or even eaten leeks, so I finally googled, "what do leeks taste like". Based on the google results, looks like many have asked the same question. So they are in the allium family. I love alliums. I've got to give them a try.

Leeks are so easy to grow and they taste like a mild onion in my opinion. Very tasty in leek and potato soup just like Travis says.

Oh oh I just realized I’m one of those garlic snobs you mentioned, if the elephant grows best in your location then it makes sense for you to grow it! I have really adopted the concept of a balanced pre plant fertilizer and then spoon feeding with nitrogen, thank you! I reckon I have been putting way to much P and K in my garden over the past years! Those leeks look good! Klaus

I pull the first couple leek leaves and if they look good, split the whole leak and wash it. All that cooks great in soup.

Good luck on the watermelons. Those are more jealously videos. Eating a seeded store bought one right now. Could be a little sweeter, but great, maybe even perfect, otherwise. But thank you SMP Watermelon LLC for providing that at my store. Get those orange or yellow ones up here, OK? And special thank to Lazy Dog to always SHOWING BY DOING. We learn so much more from that. That Agra Thrive OMRI fert. was only 3-3-5 but a liquid. Looked dark, but the Organics are weak. Just interesting that you didn't just hit it with a higher nitrogen 5-1-1 nitrogen fish fertilizer. I' m just an observer. Please continue to show us the way. I defer to you.

If you're lazy like me, slow release once a month. If you've got a good zoned drip irrigation system on a timer, then you could spoon feed every day if you want to.

Immediate question is for something like miracle grow... do you use it. Do you mind it? Do you have thoughts on it in general? How would you feel about a mineralized 10 10 10 fertilizer for things in general. Live seeing the feeding videos but us normal folk need to understand the difference of organic vs synthetic vs water soluble vs pelleted etc fertilizer that is out there. Also if i havent said it once or twice or 3 times... as someone with a pdh/master's in the subject sine if us are looking at you for the direction they should take with their gardens. I am planting lettuce in a certain spot, but i have zero clue how much blood meal (if any) i should add to those spots.

I've used plenty of 20-20-20 aka Miracle Gro aka "blue stuff" in the past. It works and you can grow some great looking veggies using it. But it's not the best for long-term soil health. That's why we made a shift a few years ago to try and use more organic solutions that feed the soil, which in turn feeds the plants -- as opposed to just feeding the plants.

Jeff from East Tennessee. Dry and starting to heat up in Tennessee. I have been seeing some videos on shade cloth for gardens. Would using that give you a better chance of growing plants in those hot summer months????

We didn't plant it. There was centipede grass between the pine trees that were there before the area was cleared. We harrowed the entire area many times after removing the trees, set the boundaries for each plot, and over time the centipede grass grew back in the pathways that weren't being cultivated like the plots were.

Darn, I did not pay attention enough and got the general purpose not fruit and flower agri thrive , guess I am missing potash. Have you tried both? Oh well I like the idea, and it sure smells better than fish emulsion, reminds me of molasses which I have used before. Going to add worm tea instead of the bug hut, figure similar boost.

If I didn't have any Fruit and Flower, I'd use the General Purpose without thinking about it. You should be fine.

We eat about half of it and then use the other half for replanting. Garlic seed isn't cheap, so we like keeping a steady seed stock going.

A head of garlic that doesn't "stratify," or form individual cloves. The result is just a big ball of garlic. Tastes the same, but ideally we like to get stratification.

How about at least a discussion of how to grow a.second crop of corn??.. i put up a little but u can never have enough frozen corn on the cob. Ordered that white corn u did and started about 100..only got a 25 percent gemination....yickes..Good thing i did that as next spring 12:27 im gonna have to up my game on starting... Hows the baby??
