BEFORE YOU REPLACE THE POWER SUPPLY ON THE GATEWAY -> I've been a tech since before those came out. Gateway pulled a fast one on those. If the CMOS battery dies (button type) it literally will not power on. No shit. I bet I 'repaired' 30 of those damned Astros for people after we figured out what was going on (replacing power supplies, cables, motherboards, and finally getting the skinny from a GW level 2 tech.) They were super cheap power supplies, plenty of them failed, so it is certainly just as likely you might need one. BUT, popping out that battery, and popping in a new one is a super easy process that just might save you a bunch of time, a little money, and a crapload of frustration. ;) So yeah, literally - they were high-drain motherboards that the battery died in 1 to 2 years. Guaranteed product return for 'repair'. Replace the battery, costs next to nothing, customer picks it up from the Gateway box store and pays $60 bench fee. Lots of people upset about that one. lol - We and a lot of other PC repair shops ended up with a lot of business over that getting out.

No problemo. Let us know how it goes. Yeah - Gateway built all of those Gateway 'Country Stores' - showrooms with all of their models and an in-house repair center. Between that issue and a couple of others, they were only open a few years and then they closed them all. Asus had a rash of motherboards as recent as the Asus z97 series that had the same problem. Some of them even came out of the box 'dead'. Asus was quick to send out free batteries whether needed or not. (most of the time you could just pop out the battery for a few seconds, pop it back in, and *poof* - booting board) :)

The university language lab I used to work for in the early 90s used bernoulli disks to "swap" courses for students in computers. There was a separate bernoulli disk with programs for Spanish, Japanese, Italian etc. The lab administrator loved it because we didn't have to have one computer dedicated for each language, we'd just pop in bernoulli disks appropriate to which ever language that student who came into the lab was going to use. He also claimed it made licensing easier because, we only had one (or two) bernoulli disks that had the program actually installed in it, but we could use it on multiple computers. I thought that was suspect but he claimed it was all fine. lol

3:49 I remember my uncle having a tenkey like this for his laptop so he wouldn't have to deal with the "Fn" key on his laptop. He was an engineer for Sperry so he often used the tenkey/num pad and found this to be a better alternative to having a PS/2 mouse plugged into the port Edited to clean up formatting.

We had the Acorn Archimedes version of SimCity Classic at school in the UK. The teachers guide you show in the video makes sense because they used to let us play it during Geography lessons as it taught about city planning, ecological impacts, environment, and so on. Always enjoyed those lessons as I was playing SimCity 2000 on my family’s Gateway 2000 at the time.

I've been hoping to see an LGR video on the 32-bit Acorn machines ever since I started watching the channel. Having them mentioned is cool in itself. The "Archimedes" models don't appear often on eBay here in the UK, and when they do, they can go for ridiculous sums. A good alternative is one of the A30x0 machines - such as an A3000. I'm half-tempted to buy one and donate it to Clint to say thanks for all the wonderful videos.

Ah, I remember that model of Gateway Astro very fondly. When my parents upgraded their PC to a Dell Dimension 4600 with flat panel, they put the Astro downstairs for me and my brother to use. He had his sports games on there, and I had a few of the "keyboard topper" games. Also programmed my first bit of HTML4 on it, it wasn't connected to the WWW, but was still cool to play with how text was interpreted in IE. Look forward to seeing it on LGR!

So awesome to see an Open Pandora there. I still have mine and it works great. Mine was within the first 1000 batch. The d-pad and gaming buttons are really great and the battery life is crazy good if you had wireless off and was idling at the desktop. I seem to remember it showing a life of like 20+ hours or so. When I was doing things like emulation and whatnot, I could have played over 10+ hours on a single charge! Mine is the 600 mhz one with 256MB of RAM. Later, they couldn't get the 600 mhz chips, so they used ones with a higher clock speed and I think 512MB of RAM. I just checked when mine was shipped and it was back in February, 2011!

The Easy Bake Kitchen one is actually pretty fun if youre a lil girl of the right age. We found one out of box at a junk sale for my daughter years ago. The plastic gizmo straps to a standard keyboard and pushes keys when you push 'stuff' on the gizmo and that in turns makes the software react. A cheap custom controller but it did the job.

Hahahaha, stroopwafels. Say the O as in 'note', not as in 'poop' :D. And I love that he sent you sweet and salty licquorice, it's generally regarded gross by non-Dutch people but at least you get both kinds to try. Stroopwafels are generally considered epic by the non-Dutch. Get them fresh on a market if you can some day ;) The drop package says 'mixed drop mix'. Which is weird. Serge's packages are all over KZbin. Ha, a Bart Smit sticker. It's a toystore chain that recently ceased to exist and is now part of the (larger) Intertoys chain. Chocolade Pepernoten. Ah, those are only sold between about late september and december. So let's hope they are still edible.
