That computed is the Ficm, not the Ecm. If you follow the duramax repair manual, the valve cover bolts tighten alot, if you don't have the Haynes duramax repair manual yet, you might want to get one. They are very handy and have most of the torque specs your gonna need. And most of the dirt that plugs up the supply side of the injectors is believed to get in there when you loosen the feed lines from the fuel injector, cause alot of dirt finds it's into the gap between the fuel feed line and the line nut, so when you loosen the nut the dirt falls into the injector. That's the theory anyway.
@stevewaclo1676 жыл бұрын
Wow! For a guy who has never battled an LB7, you did a remarkable job👍. Just did my CA/LB7/EGR injectors last summer and frankly, I'm amazed everything worked out for you. As someone pointed out below, that crud you saw on top of the injectors was from removal of the HP lines. Most folks going into these engines don't worry about it, since they will likely be doing an injector R&R anyway. As you know, the big kids at Bosch disassemble injectors in clean rooms while they are wearing bunny suits. It's not for nothing the fuel filter pulls out particles sub-10 (+/-) microns and I've never heard of someone using diesel fuel and an air gun to clean crud off the top of the injector HP fitting. 😱 Also, you didn't mention replacing (or cleaning) the HP lines from the common rail. As I said, that's where all that crud on top of injectors comes from and without proper equipment, they are difficult if not impossible to clean. For a couple hundred $$$, they should be replaced. You will notice the top of those HP fittings on the injectors are open to atmosphere and water gets in and corrodes them. Most folks silicone around the open part of the fitting, which goes a long way toward eliminating corrosion and allowing reuse. Again, I won't argue with results (well done!) but you did break a couple of well established rules regarding cleaning injectors and reusing (I presume) the HP lines. Also, don't prefill the fuel filter. Any debris getting in on the output side (past filtration) is bad news. Put it on empty and pump the primer...and pump...and pump...and...😀. So, I'm writing in November/2018. How's that beast (that the owner got for cheap) running? Best.

I saw this video and immediately thought, why don't people take apart and clean the damn injectors? Everyone always chooses to condemn the works and then spend a pile of money. I think the case could be made to at least take them apart, clean and reassemble. Especially if it's an older truck and well beyond warranty. I'm willing to guess a lot of injectors are discarded just because. Nice to see someone actually fix something old school. Nice video! 👍

Cogneeter every truck has it's issues. The lly had head gasket issues. Lb7 was injectors. Once you replace the factory injectors they last a lot longer. But it all comes down to how you take care of your truck. Except the Ford guy with there 6.0, 6.4, and 6.7. You have to drop a ton a money in to them to get them working right and even then they still have problem.lol

Everything after the LB7 used SAC vs VCO injectors. (Look up those two types to learn more). I'm confident that made all the difference. Short version: better pintle seal and no dribbling to coke the nozzle, mess up the spray pattern and produce the dreaded stinky smoke at idle...

@stevewaclo1676 жыл бұрын
Melvin james, you posted just a month ago and maybe fixed the fuel leak by now. Visible leaks outside the engine (duh, where else would they be visible?) on the right side often indicates issues with the fuel filter head, not an uncommon problem on LB7's. The CP3 (combination high pressure and supply fuel pump) creates a vacuum to pull fuel to the filter head, then through the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM) and on to the CP3 where it becomes pressurized before going to the fuel rails. Sometimes the fuel filter head can be fixed with a rebuild kit but I replaced mine with a new filter head for an LLY. ($600 vs $120). Fuel line routing is different tho and can be fiddly but savings make it worthwhile. If you are also having long crank time starts, that's a clue the FFH is damaged. Again, because the fuel system is depressurized from the tank to the CP3, I can't think of any other places on the right side to get a leak. Duramax Forum is an excellent resource! Best.
