The real illusion is Reno's background. While nationally he is French, his parents are actually Spanish. His real name is Juan Moreno y Herrera-Jiméne. The parents left Spain during the Franco regime to escape the tyranny. Eventually found their way to France. Reno himself was born in Morocco.

When the French Revolution started a group of royalist purchased 1600 acres of land in what is now Bradford County Pennsylvania to build a French community for French asylum seekers . The community was called French Azilum . Among the wood cabins was a large elegant home called "La Grand Maison" which was said to have been built for Queen Marie Antoinette and her children . What buildings that are there today are recreations of what it is believed the community looked like in the 1790's . From the mountain top high above the river valley there is a rest area on route 6 that has a plaque describing the story of French Azilum and it's purpose
