I think it's fantastic what you are doing. I grew up not far from Hopwood Hall, and as a young boy used to play in the woods, and even when I was older I still went walking there. Keep up the good work,it's so important to bring Hopwood Hall back to life. The next time. I'm in Heywood I'll be walking through those woodlands again with fond memories. All the very best to all who are bringing this important building back to life .

Good thing about leaded glass windows are the infinite patterns of the tracery you can design and the shapes of glass one can cut, and many Tudor/ Elizabethan window had individual panes with stained glass depicting family crests, heraldric symbols, floaral borders, or ecclesiastical/ historic personages. Adds a bit of color in the radiant morning light with prisms of light embueing your rich oak walls in cheerful patterns while chomping on your well-deserved Southern California Surfer's Breakfast Burrito. .........Mmmmmmm....breakfast surfers's burrito......

Great video and how brilliant to see the estate coming together again with locals learning traditional craftsmanship skills at the same time! I noticed other comment, but when I restore old furniture if it has modern glass I replace it with old wavvy glass which I get out of old picture frames. Also if pulling down old walls built prior to 1810 or so, look at the nails as they should be all rosehead nails and would have been made by a blacksmith. Each one will be slightly different but all hand made.

What an impossible undertaking restoring your family's heritage were it not for historical societies & grants. How historical would it be to have a patio (or wall or walkway) built with each brick having a person's name on it who donated their time to this massive undertaking? Our church did that to raise money as a fund raiser. ($50/100/150 per brick) Ohio/USA

Fantastic to see. Is it conservation grade glass? Looked very modern 4mm float glass without the imperfections of the old original glass. Love the old glass with bubbles and distortion. Great that it teaches traditional stained glass skills and get new panels created for the Hall. Hope the original window panes have a rubbing done, panes are numbered, dismantled, cleaned and re-used and new broken panes cut from antique style, conservation grade glass and re leaded and soldered. If not lost some of the lovely look of the original glass.

Are you still plagued with vandals and trespassers? They got over a 14 ft professionally installed gate! What about a modest roll out of concertina wire atop the fence? or is that too medieval minded? I'd have security guard dogs loose on the premises at night. Thieves can reason with humans, but it's primal with facing a guard dog. The cost of the dog patrols would be worth it to save the leaded windows. loving watching these by the way Patti from Kentucky USA

I'm worried about you breathing lead fumes/dust here. I know you're wearing a dust mask. What is the solder made of? That's the bit that will be made into a fume which is much more difficult to protect against than dust. What are your handwashing facilities like after all of this? I hope lead is not being tracked everywhere in the hall. (sorry, I am an Industrial Hygienist and safety is my whole life)
@RighteousReverendDynamite10 ай бұрын
Exactly. That is one of the major hazards around the Cathedral de Notre Dame de Paris; the fire melted the ancient lead roof (just like the roof of the larger Gothic St. Paul's cathedral in London in the Great Fire of1666) and part of it became that ominous smoke cloud that wafted over Paris and part of it ran down the limestone walls and paver stones. Massive clean up still on-going. The workers have to don and doff hazmat gear at the worksite each day.

several wonderings - the insulative property of those windows must be horrible and then are you allowed to use new replacement windows that look the same or because of the designation are you required to replace with identical windows?
