I agree. I’ve always said, people want you to do well , just not better than them. It never fails when one starts growing in their career, finance or romance, whatever the case, one will always makes the mistakes thinking the same people continue to cheer them on.

Another great video! When I was first a new supervisor it was a strange transition because I started overseeing those that I used to work with as peers(as in same role), and when I had to enforce policies and procedures that were already on place or even worse, new ones, it created a tension. I wish I had seen this video a year ago to help me remove it as a personal tension and view it as a work dynamic tension.

Yo the only people I trust at my org are my team and my best friends’ team. I will take the fall for any of them because I know they’d never actually let me down. I think talking about your team like they’re the authority in meetings outside your team goes a long way in instilling that confidence. I often voice my decision making process out loud, too, so they can understand the context I’m looking at when making a decisions, why I’m going with option c instead of a or b, and so if someone asks them to defend the decision, they can provide reasonable explanation

Delegation "ACES IN THERE PLACES"
@littlehomeforest5972
@littlehomeforest5972 2 жыл бұрын
What do you do when someone from your team just behaves in a passive aggressive and unprofessional manner day one of working with you? Doesn't say hi or acknowledge you when in the car park/just us two. When you ask this person to complete something simple they delegated to someone who isn't qualified to do so. Storms off in a hostility way.

I’ve been the new manager several times in my career. Now I’m an associate in my 60s, with a mid-20s new manager. He is intelligent or works hard, but makes the biggest rookie mistake - micromanaging with an authoritarian style. We wanted him to succeed, and we welcomed him genuinely. Now we are unhappy at work and no longer doing extra. His whole team is updating their resumes.

1. Don't assume others do not like you. Let them decide, don't decide for them. 2. Don't assume your friends are still your friends (especially for internal promotion). 3. Stop fearing or avoiding confrontation. Use confrontation as an opportunity to build trust. 4. Stop asking for permission. You were hired because someone believed you can do the job. Take charge. 5. Stop doing all the work. Delegate! You need to make sure the work gets done by the right people at the right time. 6. Stop doubting yourself. Your employees are watching you - are you self-confident? 7. Stop doubting your team. Assume that they are mature enough to handle the tasks and situations. 8. Don't assume the team knows everything. Keep an open line of communication.

In general, managers need to STOP 🛑 overworking their top performers while allowing other employees to do enough to get by and stay under the radar! I’ve respectfully addressed that managers need to utilize all employees to avoid over utilization of top performers.

💯 I find it’s sometimes easier to lean on those who you know will do the work and do it right. But absolutely, the work needs to be spread out!

I had this happen to me but you know what the reason was they were doing this to me. They were training me and harder on me because they saw me as the next manager. As of last Monday after 4 years of being leaned on and 5 years with the company I started as a new manager.

@@LeadershipwithMike Thank you for your reply. I understand the perspective, but it isn’t right. Most employees desire to have work life balance. I don’t live to work I work to live. I think the answer lies in hiring. Stop hiring sub par employees that get to skate. I am only one person and it’s not fair that I am constantly assigned more because I am a top performer than those you can’t trust to do the work. Everyone needs to step up and if they are not up to your standards they need to be removed from the team. I get that everyone is not a top performer or key player. I am now looking for other employment because of this and I really enjoy the company. I just need something with more balance.
@LeadershipwithMike
@LeadershipwithMike 3 жыл бұрын
You are 💯 correct! I was just saying as a new manager, I would lean on you if you’re the top person. That said, I would also let you know I needed your help And it was only to be for a short period. Because like you said, better hires are needed.. or more likely… better training.

I'm currently in a situation where a coworker wrote a cc:d email to our boss's boss because we were dissatisfied with the way we're being treated. Instead of doing as you suggest, he took that opportunity and burned it by delegating it back to the boss we were complaining about. The backlash is awful. Us notewriters are being left out of chat rooms and being treated unfairly. If I quit, I'm sending them your video.

How about those managers and supervisors that only delegate and do NOT help workers and overload them with work? Is it still only about to delegate? According to this video is all about the manager/supervisor not about to help to get the job done, disappointing.

It's day 5 as a new department Supervisor. There is only 1 manager in my plant . And everyone else is a Supervisor. There are serial departments. I'm currently on day 5 and I'm having ask the lead for information on the day to day. Also on how the department functions since the previous Supervisor received a promotion. Does this take away my respect as a leader? I've followed your steps this far. I'm not sure how long it will take to get up to speed. I'm taking lots of notes. So I'm hoping only a few weeks. But I'm worried this makes me seem un worthy😂. Is this a normal feeling. For instance they are supposed to get O.T approved by me. And they decided to take it upon themselves to stay today. Wich I will adress tomorrow
