You could have caught a pikachu at veridian and use it against your rival's pidgeotto, training it using your squirtle tackle which you didn't use it all. Also, pikachu learn a lot of attacks pretty fast

+KoRnFoReVeR23 you can't buy them, hence the point of the challenge (and his frustration with sand attack making him miss) it's actually quite the challenge, although being able to use revival herbs (max revives) could be a help when he finds the berries and uses them

If you can bend the rules a little and allow yourself to set foot in the pokemon center, you can release pokemon from the PC without depositing them. A bit unpleasantly pragmatic, but it could be used to remove tired members from your team to free up slots. Also, if they're in this generation, what's the ruling on heal balls?
