That press conference was painful. Pelley sounds like a typical CEO that has no clue of reality (let's hope that's the last time we ever hear from him), Shanahan had no answers or much to say (he's lost). Treliving sounded the most genuine but has to run all deals through everyone above him (he's the only one that sounds like he knows what he's doing). Basically, we got a whole lot of nothing today and that's what I expected.

So glad you commented on the whole accountability, or lack of. I commented the same, on Reddit, and got some heat for it. This press conference just seemed a 'rinse and repeat' and it needed some top-level accountability, to show they truly want to drive a huge change. I get they have to deal some 'business talk' but they didn't answer any difficult questions. I didn't get much from it; aside from Treliving doing a decent job.

We will regret it. JT is way overpaid and I would resign Mitch at 9 million something and no more. If he wants more, let him go. But I would bring him back at 9. Makes no sense to just panic trade Marner for nothing for the sake of shaking things up, JT contract up end of next year, so keep him on cheap deal and re-allocate cap room. Just blaming Marner for everything is not smart. I guess there is a reason fans should not run the team.

OMG Bunkis here is some analysis you can’t seem to see “I don’t think there would be a less popular player ever, than Mitch if he shows up for opening night”. Assuming 16 has to waive his NMC or face the maple leaf fans who don’t want him. WOW Bunkis you have lost your mind. The Core 5 34,88,16,91,44 and you pick the one that is “not the problem but is our best player” used in every situation. We insulate 91 and 44 and only recently started using 88 and 34 in more defensive situations. For those who can’t recognize defense it’s still interesting to me that Marner is still leading the team in playoff points over the 7 years of 16,34,88 playing Marner won’t leave because he wants to still be the MVP of the playoffs like he was in JR and is just entering his prime (27-32) and will perhaps have a defense that won’t give away the series like they have in the past 2017 52. Marincin 2018. 51. Keith Pelley was the head of Rogers and bought the Canadian rights to NHL games. He's the reason we can't watch playoffs on CBC without having to now pay yet more money to Rogers. In other words, he screwed all lower income earners from enjoying playoff hockey.

Leafs Ownership should take a more realistic approach. Based on the Core 4 playoff disappointments outcomes - the Leafs haven’t been a Stanley Cup Contender for 20 years. Why doesn’t Leaf Executives focus on - work to build an authentic Leaf Cup Contender first. That means serious Leaf Core 4 upgrades first. The Leafs currently have the worst playoff record in the history of the NHL - and the Leaf owners are ordering the Leafs to just win. It is like ordering Charlie Brown to win - when he never gets to kick the football. 😀

Mark my words boys, if they trade Marner and get worse (which will probably happen), all of you will be complaining. Not saying he can’t go, but I think they need to start with Tavares and Reilly first. It may be harder, but personally I think it makes the most sense. 11 million dollars for a 65 point guy and 7.5 million for a 3rd or 4th defensemen. Sorry, but when they signed Reilly they thought he was a number 1, he’s not. If he was, we wouldn’t constantly be saying we need a stud defensemen. Marner wasn’t great at all, but to blame everything on him or run him out of town is ridiculous. This is a team sport. They’re all to blame. At the end of the day, they’re all to blame. If Marner gets traded then fine, but the front office needs to try to trade the other two first. Tavares is a great player and a decent captain, he’s just not the one this team needs right now. This city and team needs a hard nose and in your face type captain. Wendel Clark and Doug Gilmour didn’t win anything here, but we still idolize them because of how they carried and lead this team.
