The only water damage in this roof leak was some water on the floor. Laminated shingles roof vent replacement. Removing asphalt roofing shingles and existing vent and then installing new shingles and vent. From start to finish. Gooseneck Roofing Vent found to be the problem was replaced. Water was dripping through the vent. After water testing it was found that the problem was the actual vent, the water was then running down the duct and right into the bathroom fan and dripping onto the floor.
Water testing this roof leak problem beforehand:

Thanks for the vid, I've been a carpenter since 1982 and I still seem to love it, even watching another "skilled" guy at work. Good example of "I'll show you how it's done" Watch and learn".

Great job, you know what you are doing, not your first rodeo! I'm impressed, you did not get any flashing cement on you hands, I would have been covered up.

Foam rubber kneeler. Best tip in the vid! The wife's gardening pad works too... lol. (He uses a hook blade to cut the granule side, or face, of the shingles. Straight for felt or backside cuts.) Looks like the previous roofer didn't remove the film over the seal stripe underneath the existing shingle. I just watched a vid where the previous roofer didn't use felt/paper under the shingles at all.

Yes, the foam comes in handy. It works for hot shingles for scuffing and also to keep from burning, and also for sliding. The plastic strip under the shingles does not need to come off. The only function it provides is helping to keep the shingles from sticking together when in a bundle. That is the plastic strip that you will see around the yard after a tear off. The wind just blows them everywhere.

What prevents condensed moisture from entering the attic from around the vent duct in the joint between the duct and the roof? In cold weather that vent will condense water inside and drip back onto the roof.

Possibly a better seal of the duct to the tarpaper. They even make transitions that seal to the roof and go up into the vent further. In our area that doesn't seem to be a problem.

When you make a cut at 12:36 min and slide new tarp under, don't you have to put roof cement in both Rt and Lt upper corners of that cut to prevent water to sip under that cut?

Not necessarily as it is the underlayment and there is plenty of overlap. Wouldn't hurt anything though, but all this will be covered with shingles. If I was going to leave it overnight, then I would definitely put a spot of roofing cement on those corners.

Please advise: did you subsequently water test the exhaust vent on the bench, i.e. after removal, to see where it leaked internally? For example, if this brand of gooseneck vent has an internal 4” diameter cylindrical collar (for the flex duct to connect immediately below the sheathing in the attic), then you have to wonder whether there is a leak in the circular joint where the collar passes through the 4” hole in the base plate. And was that joint supplemented by a bead of silicone, and did the silicone fail over time? I am wondering, given there are other brands with an internal collar that also depend on a silicone bead.

It leaked in the bottom back corner of the vent. I usually seal the inside of the vent with roofing cement. Believe I showed that in my video.

No, usually standing most of the time. The cushion is mainly for sliding and for the hot roof surface.
