frozen bananas + cocoa powder + milk/milk substitute + scoop of protein powder (i use unflavored pure whey) + plain greek yogurt = excellent chocolate shake, if you freeze it it's a lot like froyo, sometimes I sprinkle powdered peanut butter and some crushed nuts on top when I eat it frozen and it's bomb. i've tried a lot of combos but this gives me the best consistency and amazing frozen. for some reason it seems freezing the bananas amplifies how much they sweeten the mix, i used to cut them up myself but these days i just buy bags from the frozen section. the diff between a serving of cocoa powder swt vs unswt is like 20 calories so you can go either or depending on preference. dirt cheap! plain greek yogurt is pretty good with savory stuff too, it tastes a lot like sour cream. try dipping beef jerky in plain greek and if you close your eyes you can imagine you're eating carne asada. i just use it as a sour cream substitute for all my savory cravings these days and it works!

Loved the video Patty! It’s refreshing to see someone take this kind of approach to tracking and eating. These days I see a lot of people vilifying tracking but I’m vegetarian and find it useful to see if I’m hitting all my nutritional requirements for the day, not just protein but iron and so on. Tracking can be disordered if it becomes obsessive but it can also be a useful tool for many people. Also drop that skincare routine cuz your skin do be poppin 👀

Thanks for the realistic take on tracking! I think what you said is so, so true. I've broken down and cried in front of my friends because we were hanging out and I was starving (probably only eating 1200 calories while I was working out) so I ate some chips and that put me "over my calories" and I was convinced I was the worst. I'm so happy to be in a place that I can loosely track (gotta hit that protein!) and not beat myself up over going over some arbitrary calorie goal. I know I feel best when I eat a variety of vegetables and a high protein diet so I stick to that when I can but, sometimes, a girl wants some cake.

Same here, I track calories mainly to control my protein intake, but I don’t set a strict calorie goal anymore, I let my body tell me when it’s hungry or not, some days I am starving and eat loads and that’s ok, my body needs it

Everyone has different eating styles. Some people love food and tend to overeat. I'm the opposite and I often forget to eat and will under-eat most days. A scale is simply a tool to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be. For me, using a scale has helped me know when I've eaten enough calories and protein for the day. Without it, I probably would be under-recovered from training and be heading towards a potential injury. Some people don't need a scale because their goal doesn't revolve around body composition. Others, like body-builders, probably can't live without them. It simply depends on your goals and how far you're willing to go to reach it. And a scale/counting calories alone will not make or break your progress. It's a small part of the bigger picture that is your health and fitness
@PlayshotKalo
@PlayshotKalo Жыл бұрын
Yeah I had to start using a scale to track my macros and try to hit calorie surplus everyday. Otherwise I’d under eat and neglect proteins. I also can’t just eyeball serving sizes because I never did it before. As an American, all these diets and exercises and calorie counting were always advertised to overweight people trying to lose weight so I thought I didn’t need it. But now I’m aware I also need to do this to bulk

It's actually the best way to eat. The main reason why people have problems with it? Processed foods contain a lot of excess sugar, water and cheap fats because these are much cheaper than useful ingrediants. Your body does not really see these calories and especially sugar requires zero work to digest. So they wont fill you at all. If you eat unprocessed foods like chicken, Broccoli, potatoes or even honey your body knows these foods and tells you how full he is. Also natural food is way less calory dense. So the volume of the broccoli alone will keep your stomache occupied for a while.

Tracking literally helps me so much bc I’m an emotional eater and I eat very fast so I used to finish eating and be in so much pain from how full I was bc my queues were not fast enough 😅. I hate when people like to point fingers and automatically say you have an eating disorder because you track. Once I tracked I realize how much was enough for me to feel full without feeling like I was gonna explote and jt also helped to set meal times bc I would forget to eat and only remember when I was really hungry so I would have gigantic meals and no snacks which is horrible in so many ways. I do understand the people that suffered through an eating disorder are trying to help but it’s not about what you do, it’s about how you do it and the intention behind it. 👍🏻

I think everyone should spend a couple of weeks tracking their calories. It helped me see how much I actually eat when I'm stressed from work, which is three times the calories I would eat to just stave off my hunger. Scales help a lot for breakfast. Intuitive eating depends a lot on what you have been eating so far, because a person who has been waking up to pancakes isn't going to change that any time soon. P. As someone with life long lasting ETAs and who randomly found this video at 10 30 pm, you just switched my entire concept of measuring how much I eat during the day. I forbid me of doing so a while ago because of the damage it did to me, and after doing a recap of what I eat out of curiosity, I realised I only had two bowls of potato soup in the entire day. Switching my perception from: you're measuring if you're eating too much, to: you're measuring if you're not eating enough, has made me feel so much better (and I go to therapy lol). Anyway, thank you. I'm having a smoothie too

Sometimes when I go back to tracking, I don't measure everything, but I'll take pictures of meals and snacks for a week. I find it more motivating because some of the meals look really nice. It also gives me meal ideas later on. I eyeball my morning oatmeal and blueberries, but once every month or two, I'll measure it AFTER I've dumped it in the bowl, just to check in with portion size.

Love your work girl! This looks great and tasty. However, in order for this to work constantly for someone trying to lose fat, portion sizes should be precisely measured to make sure caloric deficit is created. There are many online tools that can help you with this. I remember using Next Level Diet when I started my weight loss journey and made solid progress, but more importantly I adopted healthy eating habits. Cheers!!

The more you count calories the more your metabolism goes under. Some of the many benefits of fasting and a lower carb whole food diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers over time with extended fasting and rise from dieting Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZqodZSar9R4qNU Does the body prefernetially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, it never uses mainly glucose for fuel and using glucose for fuel is very biochemically damaging! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJeUm6qDl9uBrtk The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Is fasting just the same as caloric restriction? No! Dieting increases the hunger hormone ghrelin while fasting decreases it and has many other health benefits! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYfPXqGfoc2KgsU When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpa0epSLa9yjaNE Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4OwaXqIr9h8f8k Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJamkJp_h5eNZ5Y Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow. What breaks a fast? kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZK1faZ5pd2sadE Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and builds muscle! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHu4daiZd7ypatU Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. I’ve lost weight , I started at either 230 or 235 and last I checked I was at 213 , I know it’s not a ton but it’s progress that’s real noticeable, any amount of progress is better than no progress. With me my body I gain weight so easily, I go into a food court and I gain 5 lbs , but losing weight takes almost an act of God . So I barely know what I’m doing but I’m still progressing.
