I love how more raw the live versions are. The studio versions tend to keep Tatiana's voice more centered which is fine but I like her more guttural live vocals. Another thing I miss which she rarely does live or studio anymore is scream. She screams but instead of her high screams like in Scissors or Exposed as a Liar she does mid high guttural screams.

So damn glad you ladies were able to finally get back around to Jinjer. Ari, as you were noting the poetic sense of their songs, Tatiana studied poetry at University (in particular Russian poets) and she's been writing poetry since her pre-teen years. Many of her lyrics are inspired or pulled straight out of her own poems.
@jonathanbradshaw26654 жыл бұрын
So good to have someone pick up on Tatiana's lyrics as the 'best' thing, totally with you on this, Ari. Some metal lyrics can be a bit knuckle-dragging, or just, "I want to blow things up till it's all gone away" (not all, there are other great lyricists in the genre), but Tatiana's lyrics add a whole other layer of discovery, reflection and revelation from a female perspective within a male-dominated culture that retain their 'Metal' (with a capital M) credibility. Got to love her, and them, for that too.
@swergdach3 жыл бұрын
> Tatiana's lyrics add a whole other layer of discovery, reflection and revelation from a female perspective within a male-dominated culture that retain their 'Metal' (with a capital M) credibility LOL, another demagogue stretches his hype-trending (according to all these likes) "vision" to where it doesn't exist. I wonder if Tanya herself knows that she is "fighting" for a place in the "male" world of "Metal"? She probably has to fight with all the other members of the group 24/7, because they are men, and they are also dare to be white? Spoiler: no. Or maybe she is the first vocalist in the "cursed" world of "male Metal", and therefore she suffers every day from the humiliation of men? Spoiler: no. This is ridiculous! By the way, an interesting question: why are there more male vocalists in "Metal" than women? Maybe women singers are just LESS INTERESTED in "Metal " as a musical genre? No, that's crazy, isn't it? It's just that the men forcibly ousted the women from the "Metal", yep. Cool story bro. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

These lyrics are among my favourite of all time, so much so that I wrote them on a t-shirt, lol. One thing that makes them even more meaningful is the double meaning behind them. They are not about suicide. The real meaning behind this song is not obvious at all, thankfully Tatiana explained it in an interview. One thing I appreciate about Jinjer is they always explain what their songs are about. Basically Tatiana wrote the lyrics to reflect her own seasonal depression. She used the natural cycle of life -particularly of a perennial flower that dies, then comes back to life, as a metaphor that illustrates what her depression feels like. This is a story that describes how when the fall comes and nature starts dying her depression sets in and she too feels like she is dying, like death is crawling to her toes. She says her goodbyes to the world, but she has a glimmer of hope because she knows it will pass and she will see everyone again next time. You can feel the pain and desperation in her voice when she screams "Goodbye!", that line gives me chills. The part about winter I think is pretty clear in this context. When it comes to spring she feels like a new person, like she has been reborn. One of the last lines I think is really powerful: "From the ashes of my roots the new me will rise to live again". That is literally what a flower does, the flower dies and turns to dust, but the roots remain intact through the winter and from those ashes a new flower grows in the spring. Indeed, the flower was not dead, it was just resting in a coma. These lyrics are incredible, and to add to that English is not her first language, or possibly even her second! The band is from Eastern Ukraine, so their native language is Russian, and no doubt they also speak Ukrainian, yet her ability to write poetry in a foreign language exceeds a lot of artist's ability to write lyrics in their own native language. Keep up with the jinjer reactions, every song has a story of its own, every song is completely different and incredible in its own respect, don't be afraid to look up the meaning of the lyrics beforehand. If you want another lyrically creative song I would suggest Bad Water, Cloud Factory, or When Two Empires Collide. Bad Water is about a dystopian future where humans have ruined the earth by pollution, Cloud Factory is about people that are willing to destroy other humans and the earth just to turn a profit. It is written from the antagonist's perspective. And the third one is about the Ukrainian civil war/Russian invasion that began in 2014 and is still ongoing. The band experienced this firsthand as they had to flee from their homes when the war started. Even now it is difficult for them to get in contact with their families.

Hey wasn't sure what to expect being a first time visit to your channel, but really enjoyed both of your reactions to this amazing talented band! And nice surprise to see it was a double feature ;-D So many great songs its hard to recommend just one from this band, but look forward to your next Jinjer reaction whatever it is and hope you continue to do many more! I think the song "I speak Astronomy" official video would be a great next one for you ladies :-) PS I was lucky enough to see Jinjer live in a small intimate club venue last year in Canada on Halloween night, it was absolutely the best show i've seen and was so mesmerized watching Tatiana and the band perform literally 10 feet in front of me on stage after watching countless hours of them on youtube and listening to their albums, after just discovering them myself last year. I totally became immersed in them after going down the rabbit hole. Personally they are very interesting, raw/humble people if you get to know them through social media, interviews etc, and they deserve all the success and notoriety they are finally getting after 10 years as a band, all which really came to fruition for them from their Pisces song on youtube. They have to be the hardest working band out there!

Wow, an actual review and reaction of jinjer! ARI I totally agree with you about the senseless lack of “connection” to music videos and their lyrics! It’s frustrating. Jinjer is real, and badass at that. In the working world, They are like the “boss” that still works the heavy labor with the rest of the guys: meaning they do their own lyrics, composition, Tatiana obviously does her own makeup, etc. Their managers have been in/with the band for years. It’s awesome how tight nit of a group they are and it shows! Recognizing that is another level, good job! #jinjerarmy

I have been a huge Jinjer fan for years and I could not be happier to see so many new fans being birthed from the experience they have mastered. Each and every song has something that makes it stand out from the others as you are beginning to see but the one common thread is that Tatiana (Booya) puts her heart into each songs lyrics and strives to get a point across in each compilation. As you saw in Pisces she was talking about the duality of life and the struggle with good and bad, in Perennial the natural balance of life and death. Some tracks are more focused on the musical aspect with extreme changes, breaks, shifts and things like that to keep the fans interested in that as well. For you ladies I would suggest reading the lyrics to "I speak astronomy" before watching the video so that you can appreciate the story being told before hearing how they composed it and try to imagine how they may have done it for yourself knowing how Jinjer sounds now. I bet you will be surprised even though you have an idea what to expect. This song is about her 28 year struggle to find "Mr Right" and the feeling that he must be in a different universe while telling the listener how we are all made of star dust that found its way here over extreme lengths of time and I think you will both be hooked on this track and it will be added to your playlist for sure.
