Side note : their set was delayed about 10 while the venue worked out a monitor issue. Another band was coming though their monitors. Kept bleeding (notice Tatiana fiddling with her's) and going into that slide belt toward the end she flicked the monitor out of her ear so the dude singing in her monitor wouldn't screw her up.

I *love* the quieter interlude in this- my man Eugene on bass with his left hand steady with the low-end meat, & the right hand tapping out the melody over Roman's arpeggiated funky chords on guitar.... gives such a smooth, calm, feel for Tatiana's clean vocal to soar over. Her breath control for that long belted passage is impressive after the amount of energy she'd already used up to that point. Just great all round. And considering They're from the Russian-speaking war-torn Donbass, so English is a 3rd or 4th language for them, the lyrics are impressively poetic- they put many a natively English-speaking band to shame in this department! :) In live gigs, they make use of backing tracks thru Vlad's MacBook for intros, some clean vocal harmonies etc. Personally, I think they have a great balance of giving the live crowd enough of what's on the record for familiarity, paired with playing the guts of the thing live & just being ridiculously tight! Considering that for the couple of years up til the lockdown bullsh1t kicked off, they were doing 150+ live shows a year, I suppose you'd expect them to be pretty tight live!! An unmissable live performance which is better than the album track imho, is the intense "Who Is Gonna Be The One": kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2fVp2innp1gbtU (This should show you why Eugene is my man for live bass playing right now. And I'm sure you'll appreciate the hard pivot ending) ;) Studio recordings & official music videos which I reckon you'll appreciate are: "Teacher Teacher": kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYPOg6qCZdudhck (epic multi-movement structure with interesting timings somehow without losing groove [witchcraft?!]) "Retrospection": kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZmVqoKbl8h4hK8 (a bruising *pounder* of a song, with live gig & behind-the-scenes footage montage video showing how they really do treat their fans as extended family) "Home Back": kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqXCepKdndKLf7M (absolute #PeakSyncopation!! - It's not often that I have to listen to a song 3 or 4 times thru for it to start making sense to me! And the chilled section in this one with the trippyAF Alice in Wonderland section of the video is bonkers *genius* ) LOL :)

Another great reaction bro. I really enjoy musicians/reactors like yourself dissect a song and explain what is going on when it comes to a particular song. I myself am not a musician, I love music basically because how it sounds and how it makes me feel. When it comes to Jinjer though, even I knew that their music especially their newer stuff is very complex, so it's nice for someone to explain what's going on. As far as a future Jinjer reaction, I'm gonna suggest my personal favorite Jinjer song which is Pit of Conciousness, both the official video and the live version in Kiev/Kyiv are amazing. Maybe even do a double feature with both videos, so you can hear the studio recording and the live version to compare the two. Anyhow looking forward to more Jinjer reactions, and as always, stay Metal. 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶

Great comments. Very relevant. I don't think many people truly understand the musicality that goes into some metal songs. Jinjer is great because they actually write songs that are interesting not simply from a composition perspective, but with interesting time changes, drum work, fret work, and lyrics that tell a story. Jinjer takes you on a journey over and above just giving you a reason to bang your head. And it goes without saying, Tatiana is an absolute miracle.

Of course we do! "Teacher, Teacher" or "I Speak Astronomy" would be perfect. And then further on "Home Back" or "The Prophecy", two very technical and fast and heavy songs. On the other hand something like "On the Top" or "Pit of Consciousness" would also be good choices, both the studio and the live from Kiev versions! You won`t hear many differences in quality! 😊👍

I think because Roman (guitar) and Eugene (bass) aren't professionally trained musicians, I feel like that lends itself to how well they play together. No one is trying to outshine anyone. They completely depend on each other, combining to be greater than the sum of their parts. True synergy

They sound like they do on the records. There is no extra in the studio. Yes, maybe 3 riffs with two guitars on the king of everything record. I've heard they say that they want to be able to play it all live like they record it. And there for it souds the same. Incredible!

Eugene (bass) has mentioned in interviews that he uses the 5 string bass to help fill out their sound due to them only having the one guitar. They had two originally, but it's just been the four of them for a while now. Oh, fun fact you might enjoy about Vlad their drummer: He's a classically trained pianist too. They have a video of him playing on their Jinjer Metal Band channel.

Afaik he's a pianist / composer too, also plays guitar. In regards to his drumming I think he has a jazz background, which would explain his somewhat unique kit and style (very small, very flat, open handed). Pretty rare for me to be hyped about a bands drummer and bassist, but Jinjer has it all.

This wasn't supposed to be the last song of their show but some technical problems with the stage gear delayed their start and they had to cut the set short to keep the day's schedule on time. It's the drawbacks of being a relatively unknown band, a newcomer to the festival and of playing early in the day (this was around 11 AM) on a secondary stage. They played less than 30 mins but still kicked ass. \m/ The intro is in fact a backing track, they have them for some of the song's intros, secondary guitar parts and some backing vocals. However, the vocal harmonies that you heard in the calmer part were not live, they were added in post. Great job! This is the kind of reactions where I don't mind spending 14 mins of my time. : )

Good to know Jinjer's management recognises that essentially reaction videos further promote the band. I can't understand what benefit a band's management would attain to have less positive promotion out there. Out of the 25 or so reactions I've done so far I'd say about 5 - 10 were blocked within 2 minutes of upload completion and involved several reattempts at cutting/muting etc. which is soul destroying. By working this way I have a higher chance that it'll be accepted first time. And I'm also getting into the way of this being my style now anyway. I have no issue with copyright claims (which basically every reaction video so far has acquired, as I believe the money should go to the artist) but blocking a video outright takes the fun out of doing it altogether. Cheers.

I enjoyed the analysis. Thank you. 🙂 I'm glad you're giving Vladislav Ulasevich (the drummer) the attention he deserves. He's fantastic and as far as metal drummers go, his sense of anesthetics and his subtlety in general are rarities. Technical proficiency is common among metal drummers. These other traits are not. Vlad happens to have all of them. I would suggest Teacher Teacher (just the regular music video version) as your next one. I really feel that Pisces, Perennial and Teacher Teacher are sort of a standard introductory trio when it comes to Jinjer. Beyond those, the order doesn't really matter anymore. They have many excellent tunes for you to enjoy, whether privately or in these reaction videos. Enjoy the trip.

The drummer “Vlad” is bad ass for sure watch the Studio drum one take of “Under the dome”. Also Tatiana Shmailyuk the singers studio one take of “Judgment and Punishment”. As far as songs their old stuff they had two guitarist & different drummer I’d suggest “ Outlander” then I’d say “Captain Clock” live Resurrection fest “Who is going to be the one “ live resurrection fest. “Teacher Teacher” official video it’s cleaner then the Sydney live version. But typically their live stuff is the best. “Retrospection” official you’ll love the complexity of this and “HomeBack” official vids it’s about their war torn Ukraine upbringing.

Love your reactions … so many great insights … one thing I pity you for tho, a big part of Jinjer’s appeal to me is the impact of the transitions, and because you have such a good musical ear you stop at every single one. … and kinda ruin them! So I can only imagine what it looks like when you listen again off camera without stopping and see what you’ve been missing. 🤣 Cheers, and don’t stop stopping btw!
@JWSoundworks2

Haha, I get your point! Usually I can predict (9 times out of ten, let's say) when a musical phrase or section is nearing it's end and so you're probably find I pause at the those moments a lot as I'm actually trying to get a word about the section before the next one starts. But you're right in that on repeated listens I get more out of it. You should check out my Wallflowers Jinjer series. I listened to all of the songs off that album in their entirety first and then did the analysis on the 2nd run through. I also did the album in order apart from one or two singles that came out before the album, I think! It's been a while!

Hi Michael, thanks for the comments. The Steve Vai video I have there is me playing one of his songs not a reaction video. I know Jeff Healey, my dad had a couple of his albums growing up.
