I'm korean-american and a year ago, I found this video. My mother is korean and my father is american. Although I was half korean, I never got to learn the language because when I was 3, we left Korea and started living in the states. Every 6 months we'd go to Korea to visit my grandparents but I wasn't really close with my relatives there since there's a language barrier between us, so often when I want to speak to them, I would use translators or have my mother translate words for me since my korean relatives know limited english and the only korean words I knew were 엄마, 할머니, other endearments and basic greetings. When we went back to america, I told my mother that I wanted to learn, she said she'd help me but due to her work she never had the time to do so. I came across this video and ever since then I started learning more and more. This video was literally my stepping stone. When we returned in Korea, my relatives were so happy that we can communicate better. Truly grateful for this, and to everyone who's learning, never give up

I taught myself to read Korean in a few hours, or so I thought. However, when I tried to show off to a Korean friend of mine, I quickly found that there was more to learn. I learned that the way you pronounce THE SAME SYMBOL changes depending on ??? Now, I'm sure that if I had asked for help, I would have eventually been able to read, but I didn't do that. I was so disgusted with what had been touted as a perfect system that I just gave up and never tried again. I could try again, but I don't live in Korea anymore, so there would be no point. I had no such problem with Hirakana. Again, I taught it to myself in a few hours, but the result was different than with Hangul. With Hirakana, I was able to use it correctly and usefully my entire stay in Japan. That was over fifty years ago, and I still remember it. Sure, it would take me a few minutes to get up to speed, but not as long as an hour. It's that easy. Katakana was a different story. I found its characters were too difficult to learn because they looked too much alike. Another thing is that its usage is so limited, that it's just not necessary to learn. So I didn't take the time. Arabic seems impossible

Can I just say that Kpop idols literally learn English so they can communicate with their fans and promote their group. I feel like it’s nice/respectful of us (fans) to learn their language as well. Like honestly every other country knows English (it’s ONE OF the most spoken languages after all), so I feel like we need to learn other languages too in return. Edit: I am aware that English is not the most spoken language. My apologies. That isn’t my point so pls ignore that from now on.
@chaeluv97523 жыл бұрын
i mean why would we need to do that? Its all up to our choice lol it isn't even a must. If they already are learning english, we could communicate with them in english aswell.

@@chaeluv9752 yeah I know but like they had to learn English so they could communicate with us. And yeah we don’t NEED to learn Korean or even have to. I’m not saying that every single person needs to learn Korean. It’s okay if people don’t want to. I just thought it’d be respectful since they learn English so they could talk to their fans, why don’t we learn Korean (if we wanted) so we could talk to them in their native language. ^^ I mean when you travel to different countries, it’s nice to know some simple phrases and shows that you’re interested in their culture. I’ve finished Lessons one and two and enjoyed them immensely! You are a wonderful teacher, Billy. You teach using the proper way to teach any language, including English-you help the student with their phonemic awareness so that the placement of the tongue in the mouth and the sound of the phoneme are taught together. I can go on and on…Love that attention is paid to the stroke order at the same time. Thank you! I am learning Korean. Yay!

I'm an ESL teacher in South Korea. In class, I'm only allowed to speak English, but my students like to come chat with me. I know it helps them when we speak English, but I want to understand them. But my #1 reason: for my future husband and in-laws!
@nicoleraheem11954 жыл бұрын
hahaha future husband. Girl me too. I'm learning mandarin and Korean. #VengoGao keeps me motivated to continue mandarin. Korean because they seem a tiny bit more accepting of black people than Chinese ppl

As a Korean, I'm very amazed and happy about this video:) Hangul is easy to learn how to pronounce or write down, but it's also difficult because it's are complicated. But if you learn, you can use more expressions easily. I'm using a translator to deliver what I'm saying, so the meaning might be wrong. I'm really sorry about that:(

Guys, I know sometimes it might not make sense But trust me nothing makes sense until you really dedicate to understand it Sometimes you might wanna give up! Don't Instead take breaks in studying by watching korean dramas shows or songs I really thought it was impossible when I first saw this video. But now I'm proud of myself for learning hangul thanku Billy now I can read korean easily though I struggle to speak! But I know I'll get there soon and so will you. You can do it!

yo... in almost 8 years of being a kpop fan, i've picked up so much korean that i can actually speak it but i never got around to learning how to write (with two or three failed attempts somewhere along the way). WELL I WATCHED THIS WHOLE VIDEO, TOOK NOTES AND WITH A BIT OF KOREAN LETTER KEYBOARD PRACTICE IN BED BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP AND BOOM! I LITERALLY LEARNED HOW TO WRITE A WHOLE NEW LANGUAGE OVERNIGHT.

I’ve been searching and went through a lot of videos to learn Korean since lockdown started, but never found a proper one. Most of them were too fast and confusing. Then I happened to find your video in my recommendation and I started learning. Your video was the best thing I’ve ever found in my recommendations, like ever. Thank you so much for the thorough lessons and explanations. It was super helpful ad I’ve learnt a lot. Will look forward to many more videos from you. Thank you once again. Hope you’re well. Stay safe.
