Knew this was going to be a good video from the start. When I was young and my dad took us fishing, he told us: "Boys, if you want to really learn how to fish, always talk to and hang out with the fellows you see on the bank with buckets. You will learn more from them about catching fish than you will from anyone out here in a fancy boat." :)

Great video! I mullet fish this way too! I’m 1 of the only young people left who do it apparently. I actually knew a guy in Yankeetown who was a phenomenal fisherman. He took me when I was a youngun and he was fishing strictly with lures at a time when people didn’t go fishing without live bait for backup if nothing else, with baitcasters before they had antibacklash technology and he always caught whatever we were fishing for. He was that good.

Is there a time of year that the mullets run ?
@KayakChris2 жыл бұрын
There is an actual "mullet run" usually in September but you can fish for mullet like this year-round here in Florida. It's usually not too difficult to attract and catch the schools moving up and down the saltwater canals.

@@KayakChris so after watching this video. I went and bought everything and went fishing. Am I missing something here? Are you throwing out the mash and then not putting anything on the hooks you guys are casting out there? I catch mullet with bread and worms and a #4 or #6 hook. My name is Bernie and I am an avid fisherman. I catch mullet, Mayan Cichlids, Bluegills, Bass, Catfish etc.
@KayakChris5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bernie, Thanks for the comment. We put small slices of white plastic worm on the hooks. When we pitch the mash the white flakes of worm look a lot like the oats mixed in the mash so the mullet hit them.

I don't see why not, you just need to be in a place where mullet frequent.

Chris, great video. Did you use the mash dry or did add a liquid? I use to throw a cast net for them when I lived in Clearwater. I’m in Dunnellon now and have been buying mullet over at Charlies in Crystal River to smoke. I want to try this from my Kayak. Thanks and keep the Videos coming. Ron
@KayakChris6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Ron, I carry the dry mash down to the bank and THEN add water to it. Just enough that it sticks together in a ball. You could get away with the same rig but 1 hook on a dedicated rod. I use a pocket fisherman on the yak. I always see thick schools of mullet out there paddling. Chuck a ball of mash and throw the mini rig out into them, boom you'd get a mullet I bet. If you can find a small enough circle hook that would also help your hook up ratio if you are using a short bait pole since you can't "snatch" the line as effectively on a short rod. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

@KayakChris5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Quaker oats mixed in chicken feed. I have the ingredients in the first part of the video. I think the chicken feed is Layer crumbles. Don't add as much oats as I did, you only about 1/2 can to a 5 gallon bucket.

I find your video description kinda disrespectful. Mullet are great fighters pound per pound and can reach 10+ pounds and yet you seem to think they are just a good beginner fish like bluegill. If you would have used appropriate sized tackle for the small mullet you were catching instead of using oversized tackle and just horsing them in, you would have realised this.

No offense meant Nick.
