@@henrikanchelia64 No clue. My gues is that since many Italians are quite religious, many of these curses could actually have been seen as blasphemy, which is taken very seriously here (up until 1999 saying blasphemies in public was illegal, now is frowned upon and if it is a disturbance to others you could get sanctioned). I may be wrong, I'm not sure. Hearing them with an English accent is so much funnier to me though

I chose Italian as my major at uni purely because I was in love with the games. I didn’t know anything about Italy before playing the game and I was completely mesmerised by it. I couldn’t wait for the characters to slip another italian word which I would write on a piece of paper and keep at my desk. Now basically everything I do in life has something to do with Italian. @switchstatement5683 жыл бұрын
There's a simple reason for that: the Italian version has Italian dubbers, whereas the english version has english dubbers, if they alternate between 2 different voice actors people are gonna notice it, therefore their final work was this mess. I think they should have never put Italian in the english version, but as we can see americans (and most likely even english people) aren't able to notice so it all worked out for ubisoft.

The only AC (with Brotherhood) I didn't play in English but in Italian. It flows so much better and since I'm Italian myself, I wanted to enjoy being in Reinassance Italy 100%. I never played AC2 in English but with regards to the Italian version, I really appreciated the fact that the language tries to resemble to the one that was in vogue at the time in Florence and Venice, at least partly. Props to the Italian translators who really put effort in making the game as historically precise as possible. Also, the English version (as I can see from this video) employs a lot of swear words (way more than the Italian one where those expressions were almost inexistent); moreover, I doubt that some of these expressions would've been used at the time😅

@@amecapax You have to admit however that Ezio's voice isn't just trying to be sterotypical, the game also has many serious iconic moments. Plus, its one of the many fond memories for a lot of players to have certain italian quotes lodged in their heads such as "requiscat de pace" or the random swear words, it gave the game a lot of life and it was comedic aswell in its own way.
@amecapax3 жыл бұрын
@@Alninio Yeah you're right, even if "requiescat in pace" is latin and not italian 😂 (just for your personal culture the italian translation would be "riposa in pace", which is literally "rest in peace"). The only thing that triggers me so much is that the pronunciation in my opinion doesn't express the real potential of italian. The same thing happens when i try to speak american english, i get so mad that i can't speak english like a real american because of my language influences, so i would never accept the english voice acting with my same pronunciation. Im quite fussy about this, i cant do anything lol

@@amecapax I'm Arabic - in Assassin's Creed 1, Altair speaks a bunch of arabic and I didn't mind it for the simple reason that he is an american voice actor and he did best he could with it, its not 100% arabic accent but its good enough to the point where it was fine. The NPCS you fight are ACTUALLY arabic, so they're voice acting is pure arabic. what was kind of weak was in AC Unity when arno becomes an assassin, they say arabic phrases and its not that great but again the reason I forgive it is because they are english voice actors trying to put some life into the world with the language of the place the assassin is in and the creed being reborn generally by Altair, they follow the words of the creed "لا شي واقع مطلق لكن الكل ممكن" which is "nothing is true, everything is permitted." Altair says that quote in AC1 too when he speaks to Al-mualim, ofcourse its not perfect, he's American voice actor but he did it well enough throughout the game and as an arab, not only did I appreciate it more but I loved Altair even MORE. They tried to do this for us and for me that is enough.

Fun fact but I actually passed Italian in high school with an A* thanks to AC2 and Brotherhood! The first half of the year I was actually allowed to just read and do whatever because I retained so much. Crazy to think about. In this epoch of political correctness and the censorship of anything close to ‘offensive’ that the greater educator was found in the very video games high ranking officials bare such animus towards.

But. Assassins creed is literally about anarchism. The original games were pouring at the seams with leftism. I mean the assassins symbol is a stylised version of the anarchy symbol and it goes out of its way to say america is fascist.
