Hi Karen. I love working with chalk pastels. I have a wooden box of oil pastels it was a present, I have not used them. I hope to try them soon. I have used toothed water colour and pastel paper with the chalks. Have fun playing. They are embossing tools they are used in Parching . Embossing oan Parchment I also love parching. They are good for shaping flowers etc on your paper crafting and other crafts.

Sennelier is like using lipstick…sooo soft and so it wont last long because it goes on like butter and you will be replacing your individual sticks frequently at a high cost. But they are gorgeous.

White oil pastels comes in 2 forms, ones that's opaque which can layer on top, then it also comes in transparent white, which i think its better for bleeding. I learned that from buying the wrong one before. Also, you can use watercolour on top of oil pastels, by using it as a resist, makes great texture 😊 Thanks for the video, looking forward to future downloads 😊

I got into oil pastels for a bit last year. I got a nicer set of Paul Reubens ones for Xmas but haven’t had time to break them in this year. Just so you know, Cray Pas are Japanese, not French. So you actually pronounce the s in Pas. The Japanese like to abbreviate things so they are literally “crayon-pastels”= cray pas. 😂 (Posca pens are Japanese too. They are an abbreviation of “poster colors”…posutaa kala.)

I bought the most sorry brand, oil pastels, ever, (impulse buy and no patients), Master’s Touch, and used them for the first time in the gnomes lesson you and Lucy did, (I’m still working on it). They were so hard to blend. I had Mineral Spirits somewhere, I wanted to use on them but I couldn’t find it. So, I used a tiny bit of my odorless turpentine on a paint brush and blended them with that it was like painting!!! It blended so beautifully and I LOVED the feel of working this medium like paints but with that glow effect you get with the oil pastels! And it completely changed the quality look of them. They went from looking like cheap crayons to beautiful oils, imho. I really am in love with this medium now and would like some of those Senneliers! Thanks Karen, for bringing these to Awesome Art School! ❤❤❤

So excited to watch the video. I've only gotten to the gloves in a bottle part. I'm surprised by this. We give these to small children in elementary school, and they sure aren't wearing gloves. Um, should they be? My daughter uses my Mungyo's all the time, and I really cannot remember it saying we needed gloves. I don't have the box anymore though.

Blend with a soft cloth, chamois, or use low odor mineral spirits and paint brush. The white Hobines - since you have them. Try laying them down first and then blending colors over top. It will just be lighter shades, but at least you can use them up.

Should try Paul Rueben’s they compare to sennellier I’ve heard. Maybe not quite as soft but superior quality for price, and sennelier makes a fixative spray that artist rave about, since normally oil pastels never dry.

I saw a faber castell man dragging reflection down into the water of his painting with soft pastels and I was like oh wow. It was beautiful. Cant think of his name older gentlemen British accent. Bet you could do the dragging thing with oil pastels also to some degree and also use the tool for refining edges and really tight places. I enjoyed this. I always put the oil pastels back up and say I dont like this but I dont think I've given them their proper chance.
