Learn Persian with Majid
Lesson 5 is a Persian grammar lesson. In this video, you will learn how to make possessives in Persian. As always there is new vocabulary also for you to learn. This grammar lesson is really easy and useful. I have provided you with some examples to help you master possessives in Persian. Do not forget to make your own examples. At the end of the video there are some sentences for you to translate into Persian, the last two sentences I have already used in the previous slide, so they are just extra sentences that I have forgotten to delete :D

I have one question. About possessives you said that when the word ends with vowel we add (ye) at the end of the word in pronunciation only, but we write the (y -> ی) Why didn't you write in the word window? Something like پنجره ی or پنجرهی

Good lesson, but I have a question! Pedare man = pedaram, but Pedar hastam is also pedaram. So, we have two meanings for one word? should we watch at context to distinct them?

То есть жать на паузу, перевести, а потом посмотреть как перевел автор ☝️Он обычно использует слова, которые разбирал до этого в предыдущих уроках этого плейлиста, так что все что нужно для перевода, обычно есть.

I end up getting confused with romanization. It seems there is no rule. I mean people write the words differently. For example, the pronouns: ma, maa; shoma, shomaa; oona, una; aanhaa, anha! Anyway thanks a lot for your lessons! I am a total beginner and it is very useful!

The transliteration is a little optional and personal, for example some people write khOOb, some khUb (good). When it comes to A like the words you mentioned, I can say all of us write the with one A, like ma, shoma, oona... However in my lesson I have clarified from the beginning that in order to show the difference between two Persian vowels, let's write one A for the vowel in for example bAd (meaning bad), and two AA in the word bAAd (meaning wind), so that people can better understand. We took the alphabet from Latin, and in the beginning everyone just wrote how they felt like writing in English, there were no rules. This was the case for quite a while, and then the spelling started to become standardised.

Hello Majid, I don't know if it's not too late to ask, but I am confused about one thing. For example, you said here in this video that "our father" is "pedaremun", however somewhere else I have read that it should be "pedaremaan". Is it just some regional difference, or are both forms equally fine? I would be really happy if you could help me to clear things up with this :) I haven't been learning Persian for long and it's still very confusing to me at times haha

Although, in your first line you've said "My name am Effendim". You would be using the "ast/-e" conjugation because the subject is your name, not you --> Esme man Effendim ast/Effendime or Man Effendimam - I am Effendim
