This help is immeasurable. I am from Hong Kong, and this is easy because Cantonese has even more tones. I was three years old to know the difference between "mom cooked dinner" and "a horse cooked dinner" -- แม่ and ม้า. Yet, even when I can read the script, this is still the best for me -- as a generally English speaker -- on the fly. Thank you.
@ChuChu-zr6cl7 ай бұрын
Thai Chinese call mom >> "ม่า ม้า" or "ม้า" (short style) So you call mummy >> "ม้า" that's ok .

Best part is I can practice in the dead space you make while looking at the word. No one else I have found adds this dead space to practice and then hear what the answer is.

This is one of the best tone videos I've ever seen. I can remember the tones of words I've heard specifically from a piece of media, but I have so much difficulty remembering how to say a tone when I'm simply reading a word. Thank you. Not only that, but you are an AMAZING teacher. I literally showed this video to one of the educational students that I tutor, because I was so impressed with the way you quickly moved through the material with different examples while being fun and entertaining.

This is a very good introduction to pronouncing Thai tones For someone starting to learn the Thai language. I have been living in Thailand for a couple of years and I have no problem enunciating the tones when I know which tone should apply to a word. More difficult is being able to hear Thai tones in conversational Thai, and remembering which tone to use to give the syllable you’re pronouncing the meaning you intend. Using the wrong tone, or applying no town at all, can make your spoken in Thai unintelligible to a Thai person. I once told the parents of a small child that their son “likes to ride horses“, with disastrous results as what the parents heard from my mouth was, he likes to eat dog sh*t.” And I once got slapped in the face by young lady I tried to describe as “beautiful“, but using the wrong tone had me calling her “bad luck“. One day I will master employing the correct tone, if I only live long enough…
