How to animate fire Step 1: Get a reference, you can get a picture, or gif, but a real life reference is usually the best for understanding how anything looks. It’s easy! Just set your house on fire! Step 2: Now that your house is on fire, be sure to animate quickly before you pass out from smoke inhalation. Step 3: Just as everything is about to go dark, if you haven’t already fire proofed your computer, then be sure to save your animation to something online, like cloud storage, or through an email. Step 4: When you (hopefully) wake up after being rescued by your local firefighters and find your (hopefully) finished animation. Good job! Step 5: Spend years in prison for arson after the police investigations discover that you were the cause of the fire.

Dude- I'm a student in school at the Art Institute here in KC for animation. We're currently studying the elements and our assignment is to do a comp of fire, smoke, and water. Lemme tell you, man; your concept on elements actually makes it really easy to understand. It was super helpful for my flame animation. Thanks so much.

You migrating to TvPaint really made a difference in your style. I think your animations feel a lot more natural and more YOU, if that makes sense? Also incredible tutorial, really planned out and thoughtful. Thank you! Here's a question for you; do you have any tips on animating water/bubbles? For example I have a character who's drowning in water like liquid in my thesis film, what can I do to make the animation feel like she's drowning?

Hello Howard, i have started to work on my own animation/movie Project recently and there is one thing that i struggle with while colouring. How colours behave in certain enviroments. For example: A red apple doesnt look the same at night as it does at daytime. This makes it difficult for me to intigrate my characters into the background. A tutorial for something like that would really help me.
@justnadja236 жыл бұрын
try using masks! draw your thing, put a solid layer on it lín purple f.e. for night time, put it on multiply, and then erase out the spots where light is. that way you can manipulate the colours without ruining your original file!

Is using reference for animating cheating? Like I noticed my animations are a looottt better if I use reference and basically copy the positions of the body I'm animating. Not rotoscoping, but copying the movement's look and timing, and then adding onto the movement to stylize it. Should my goal as an animator be to animate something without reference and have it look good?
@HowardWimshurst6 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with shooting your own reference and using it to inform your work, in fact I would advise it. If you use someone elses work as reference make sure that it is transformed beyond recognition, otherwise make sure to credit them and ask for permission if it looks similar!

Hi! What software are you using for this tutorial?
@HowardWimshurst5 жыл бұрын
About the SOFTWARE I use in the video: A huge amount of my production involves Adobe CC (my affiliate link tinyurl.com/v7fvqgo) I use Adobe photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Audition and sometimes Animate. I would be nowhere without these softwares. You can get them all with a comfortable monthly subscription, or you can get subscriptions to individual plans. Check them out and see what works for you. The main software I'm using to actually animate frame by frame is called TVPaint. Here's more information on that: www.tvpaint.com/ It's a great software :) And if you need a Graphics tablet, I highly recommend this one for you ballers out there: geni.us/vy8xUZB It's the best tablet money can buy :) And here's a great low-low cost alternative: geni.us/LLYv
