@@CoachJulia I think the slide-pull method looks like a great way to practice this. I'm not great at the t-stop, afraid to gain much speed before attempting, but I'm gonna try the slide-pull-caterpillar thing on Tuesday. Thanks for posting this!

This is the only video which shows correctly how to do the t stop. All others tell you to simply drag one heal behind you on the inside part of the blade rather than the outside which is incorrect

Thanks for this tutorial! I'm an experienced rollerskater but a novice ice skater. Trying to do t-stops as I would on roller skates made me realise that the edges on ice skates feel rather different from rollerskates. Seeing this tutorial made me realise that you really need to exaggerate the outside edge for t-stops on ice skates. (On rollerskates you can place your foot more in the centre than fully on the outside edge). Gonna give t-stops another try next time I go ice skating.

A good set is cheaper than ski equipment. I do because I play hockey. My point was the extra cost may change the mom's decision.

At times I passed by your channel, Julia, and read comments by others: I can't take it in why they could not even be bothered to search for themselves what they asked for: a shining example here for T-stop and another for hockey-stop which you had uploaded long ago. But these comments-writers did not know them and asked you for making ones. It is incomprehensible.

Question: why do your pants go down over skates, does this help with balancing at all? Great videos btw!!
@CoachJulia2 жыл бұрын
Partly is is a style thing, the other part of it is I like having my laces and hooks covered because it helps keep everything in place and reduces the likelihood of slicing your laces with your blade.

@jrg3052 жыл бұрын
They never taught us to do this with the inner thigh and the outside edge. I've been doing it with my flat skate and now I have inner knee pain. I also can't stop with momentum like you can. It seems to just drag forever and not stop
@jrg3052 жыл бұрын
Is there a recommended stop if you're a guy who is at least 180 lbs? I feel like a t stop doesn't have enough friction if you weigh more than like a 5'4 115 lb girl. There just is way more force required to stop, and this one doesn't seem to do the job without giving my side of knee ligaments an unhealthy stretch. Maybe I need to bend my knee more or lunge into it more harshly?

Neo the pooh It is! Especially if you accidentally step on your blade.
@rebeck66515 жыл бұрын
Hey is it still effective on Hockey skates?
@PeckoBre5 жыл бұрын
Yup and its a good way to get a feel for your back leg outside edge when you move to learn hockey stop. Also be careful as she said you can spin out if you mess up. Should've mentioned that to avoid spinning out, keep your back leg angle at or below 90 degrees.
@CoachJulia5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! This works on Hockey skates, just try to keep your weight to the center- outside of your blade, not towards the toe or heel.
@garysimkins21792 жыл бұрын
Hi Julia, Is the process the same on Dance Blades? as the heel being shorter and leaning back could send me over?...???
@CoachJulia2 жыл бұрын
The process is the same. It is more about using the outside edge, so the heel length isn’t as important.

@@CoachJulia how about the hockey stop? I was skating today for 1 hour and found the plow stop hardest, hockey stop 2nd easiest and then t-stop the easiest. But i really want to get the hockey stop down
@bluecavemen3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't stopping with the heel cause you to fall back. I see the shaved ice it coming from the middle not the heel..
@CoachJulia3 жыл бұрын
It really helps to reduce spinning and give more stability to press down with the heel, but the result is usually that the skater ends up on the middle of the blade, rather than way up at the front. So yes, use your heels, but yes, you will probably end up stopping with the middle.
@bluecavemen3 жыл бұрын
@@CoachJulia I just replied to this video. I was trying to do a hockey stop from watching your video. That same day I went skating. When I did. I feel back got a whiplash on my neck. I felt like I chipped a tooth. I'm not blaming you. I should of wear a helmet or mouth piece. After failing to do hockey stop. I realized that I was doing heel pressure. And not the middle of the blade. So when I did it from the heel. I was surprised and didn't expect to fall back. I just need to learn to turn my hips
