As a teacher, I have to say everything you’re talking about in terms of your structured approach is great! The working memory can only hold 4-7 things at once. The clutch, gear stick, steering wheel, and three pedals take up nearly all that space. You don’t want to be worrying about roundabouts in your first lesson as well😂 Also, happy birthday!

Structured method for learning how to drive. Module 1. Basic car control. Move, stop, steer, change gear. Staying on our half of the road. Basic car adjustments, mirrors, wipers. Module 2. Basic junctions. Turning into a road on the left, the right, coming to the ned of the road to turn left, turn right, traffic lights. Simple roundabouts. Module 3. Busier roads where you can't stop. Multiple lanes, big roundabouts, country roads, motorways. Independent driving, emergency stops, road signs, using nat sav, etc. Module 4. Reversing, maneuvering, mock tests.

As a learner your structured approach sounds good to me, I am an anxious driver sometimes and can get very overwhelmed with it all, I'm 15 hours in and still wouldnt say I'm completely confident controlling the car, my instructor is old school and we have been doing a bit of everything so far but I feel maybe a more structured approach may have helped me progress quicker. Thanks for the helpful videos 😃

9:02 yep, this is why I changed driving instructors. Constantly getting shouted at or being told I would fail my test at every opportunity, even though I had no test booked. I switched instructors and within the first hour, of driving with a calm instructor, they told me I am ready to book the driving test, and now progression has been going much faster, lessons are more effective, as I am calm and carrying out safe driving.

My instructor taught me hill starts, mini roundabouts and dealing with parked cars and traffic on narrow roads on lesson 1 because where I'm from in London there's nowhere you can go that will avoid these. I actually travelled out to meet him in here as it's far better than my actual local area . It was a lot to take in and I was making loads of mistakes, especially when facing traffic on narrow roads because I was panicking and didn't feel comfortable with the controls yet. But he was very calm and reassuring so I got through it, and then when we did go on bigger roads I couldn't believe how easy it is not having to constantly worry about scraping parked cars and vans speeding towards me down blind bends🤣

I really wish i'd had a driving instructor like yourself as it would probably have saved me a lot of time and money. i've lost count of how many lessons i've had but i'm pretty sure its close to, if not literally, 100. I'm an older learner and also a very nervours driver (at least when i started). My current instructor isn't bad, but i feel like i would've really thrived under the tutelage of someone like you. You explain things very clearly, in very layman terms, and just seem to put learners at ease.

34!!!! He looks 10 years younger at least. This guy obviously drives a time machine!😄 I watched his videos all night Friday and went for my 1st private lesson on the Saturday after more than 20 years after having professional driving lessons, and I did quite well. I went for my 2nd private lesson today, didn't have time to watch his videos and my lesson was a shambles, so much so I nearly ended in a ditch at the side of a car park🙈 However the plus side is I braked well😳 These videos in my opinion are great for learners🤗

My first lesson included t-juction, mini roundabout, 1st2nd gear change, Turn left/right. 2nd lesson included small roundabouts, 2nd3rd gear change, 3rd lesson I:ve got large roundabout and forward bay parking. It was very challenging and I felt like the instructor wants to check how much I can do or test my limit. This motivates me to go through most of your videos in a very short time so I have some concept before the next lesson. I keep watching again and again on your videos in the last few weeks. Thank you mate! Looking forward to my 4th lesson...

Belated Happy Birthday Richard! The being nervous and anxious part certainly doesn't help, however, it also doesn't help if your instructor is convinced that you're completely nervous/anxious in every-single-lesson. It took me over 20 lessons to cover what you mentioned in Module 2. I stopped being nervous after several lessons, however, my driving instructor kept on commenting on my driving in every single lesson-which made me anxious/nervous again and made me forget what I was meant to do. There is such a thing as the instructor not giving a damn about the pupil, but there is also the over-protective driving instructor that doesn't help your journey of learning. I watch your videos before every driving lesson, but because of the constant commentary from my instructor I forgot most of it. I'll still watch your videos anyhow-dreadful shame you don't cover the Sussex area!
