Did not expect music theory in a Bayesic video, lol. Big music nerd here. I absolutely love 6/8 time so it's nice to hear it in game. Small correction though, you said "concert time" where you meant "common time" - not a big deal though, haha.

That was very fast, thank you for the tips! I really enjoyed this course playing the first time, and I was genuinely surprised by the reverse lap at first. Great stuff, thanks again!

Your comment about the music being in 6/8 time was very interesting. I’d never thought about it! 5/4 Wild Woods still takes the cake for non-concert time music, though, I hope.

I like the reverse section because it puts the big shortcut near the end for exciting comebacks / finishes. Same with the chomp at the end. It adds a level of excitement at the end to navigate that well and to have crazy comebacks because people struggle to do it fast / safe.

Oh, I didn't even know it was unused from DS in the first place. I thought it was something they randomly added to Tour for the gimmick of driving backwards. Good fact.

Thanks for the super nice video as always, the pacing is getting better and better! About the backwards section in lap 3, well it's not that I have anything against it, it just feels a bit lazy like oh look guys remember that trick of going the wrong way, we do it again here. The gimmick is getting a bit old, wouldn't have minded 3 laps being the same.

I'm now only 4.417 seconds behind your PB! (You're more skilled at this game than me, so I see it as an accomplishment.) Also, I love the music talk! Yep, Peach Gardens is in 6/8. Though I think 4/4 is called "common time" rather than "concert time". Edit: Oops, should have looked at the comments before commenting. I see someone has already corrected you.

I don’t know where I got “concert time” from tbh. I could have sworn I read that somewhere but I guess I was wrong lol
@unsightedmetal6857
@unsightedmetal6857 Жыл бұрын
@@Bayesic I bet I know why! There's this thing called concert *pitch* which is "a standard for the tuning of musical instruments, internationally agreed upon in 1960, in which the note A above middle C has a frequency of 440 Hz" My guess is that you combined concert pitch and common time.

As someone who played the original DS track and the MKWii version, I really like how they managed to bring new life to this track. The change of the bushes in the labyrinth part and the backward section are like a breath of fresh air. That being said, the new path looks empty and dull, but aside from that the rest of the track is very good

The lap 3 being backwards is a very nice twist imo. Sure, it's nothing mind-blowing once you've played it a few times, but do any tracks offer a gimmick that's really mind-blowing once you've played it a few times? I just appreciate how the track is designed in a way that makes it fun to race on in both directions. And that this works on a retro track makes it even more interesting because we're getting to see a beloved classic track in a whole new way.

fun fact: not only are Peach Gardens, Wild Woods, and Paris Promenade the only courses in MK8DX that don't have music in common time, they're the only courses in the whole series to have this trait! Kind of a weird coincidence that they're all in one game...

Wow, I never realized that the mini turbo boost should run out just before you go into the grass! It is pretty strange as this is not required for other comparable NISCs, for instance the one at hyrule's circuit (near the end). Do you have any explanation for this?

Music theory nerd here: this song is in 3/4, not 6/8. 6/8 is not that unique for this soundtrack, Thwomp Ruins is 6/8 and there are some 4/4 songs with swing that also have that feel. Peach Gardens is more of a fast 3/4 waltz, which is what makes it so distinct. (3/4 has 3 strong beats per bar while 6/8 has 2 strong beats, making 6/8 sound closer to common time and 3/4 sounding totally different) Also, the track going backwards on lap 3 really makes this track feel more like a real place - it opens up a new section of the garden, finishing the square. Plus it makes the path less linear. 0:02

I definitely feel more of a 6/8 pulse from this than 3/4 personally. Like if I just think about how I’d be moving my body while listening to it it reminds me more of Ed Sheeran’s perfect than something like My Favorite Things from Sound of Music. The other thing is that it’s kinda hard to explain in words, but like if you think about the bass and the melody that’s being played over it, it seems like it takes 6 beats of the bass for every phrase in the melody (not sure I’m using the term correctly) But you know… tomato tomato lol Also I’d never considered thwomp ruins soundtrack. There’s definitely part of it in 4/4 but I have no idea what the first part of the song is doing haha
@potatojuiceultra
@potatojuiceultra Жыл бұрын
@@Bayesic Oh I see what you mean, I am hearing the song in double time compared to you (so I hear 2 bars where you hear 1). I hear it that way because of the background strings which have this "down up up" pattern which makes me think of a waltz, although it is really fast for one (quarter note = 207bpm) so I see how you hear eighth notes where I hear quarters. Basically the same thing. Also I just listened to Thwomp Ruins because I was really curious about how the song even works. It seems to be 6/8 all the way through, but the second half puts less of an emphasis on it (It could be described as 4/4 with swing, but since it doesn't change tempo or anything I don't think the meter needs to change). The beginning is really hard to count though, I never realized how weird it is until now.

I don't mind the reverse section that much, though I don't really see the appeal either. It's really meh to me too. Not a fan of the glider though, I actually like drifting through the chain chomp gardens and feel like the glider section is boring + shoehorned in there because every MK8 course apparently needs at least one glider section instead of because it would actually make the track any more engaging Great music and visuals though, I enjoyed this on MKDS and still enjoy the remake
