Korean's got this cool thing that English doesn't. You've got a keen eye, by the way! Great question. So, the stuff below the letters? We call that 'batchim'. It's essential. Let's take 'candy' for example. In Korean, each sound needs its own character. 'Candy' has two sounds: Can/dy.
