Confidence comes from defense is the truest statement I heard ever when it comes to take downs. But the same goes towards Jiu Jitsu.

Terrific, just what I needed! Can you do more videos like this aged at older guys please? I'm 37 and want to start wrestling ASAP :) I've literally never done a second of wrestling as its not common in my country, so the barebones basics would really help people like me

Happy to read your comment. I'll make some foundational basics type content in the near future. Welcome to the channel Jon

I’m with Jon. This gives me something to work toward. I’m a 49 y/old blue belt. Never wrestled. Mostly spend my time in wrestling class looking confused.

As a 74 yo white belt in jiu jitsu, I've been using your concepts and they've helped me a lot. I'm much more confident in the standup. Still a lot of work to do on the take downs portion.

From a vet CCC and later freestyle from the late 1950s - very impressive coaching. Interesting the very close similarity between Jiu Jitsu and CCC. To enter competition had to 'switch" to freestyle, recognized by BAWA etc, but found CCC much more satisfying.

I really appreciate the explanation of basic terms. So many videos I have seen mentioned the down block and I thought I knew what it was but I now see I had a pretty vague idea. This video is gold not just for its own sake but because it helps me understand other information out there! Thank you!

To get this level of illustration online is phenomenal, truly. I can't say how grateful I am for this channel, I hope you get fair compensation. You never ask for subscriptions or anything yet produce top level content and have done for a good few years now, you're in a league of your own.

Fun Fact: Wrestling is actually millions of years old since many reptile species from snakes to lizards show this behaviour as a non-lethal way of fighting for dominance.

Love that! I have a question...What if i don't have a club where I can train wrestling? In my country, wrestling sections are mainly for children and long-time wrestlers (hermetic environment). I guess I would have to go to the USA

Is BJJ the only way to learn this as an adult, or are there also wrestling/catch schools out there? Nothing against BJJ, but for the time being I'm interested in stand up stuff like take downs, defense, and throws more than ground stuff like submissions, locks, etc. Might do BJJ and maybe even Judo later on, but for now I'd like to do something more focused on this one aspect (preferably no-gi).
@thereafterme8 ай бұрын
I would start with judo, since it's the ancestor art of BJJ

Its not that people do not know how its where. Luckily I had a place that has wrestling lessons and went there against high schoolers. Gained a lot of experience. Thing is while you can gain wrestling takedowns in your jujitsu part of the reason wrestling is great is because of its movement and mat awareness that you will only gain through wrestling.

What kind of.plave was it where they gave wrestling lessons? I'm really looking everywhere for a spot to learn lol

I hurt one of my nerves in my neck shooting for a double leg take down and the doctor said I have a little bit of stenosis (narrowing of the holes that your nerves come out in your spinal column) . I took several weeks off and then after a couple of weeks back doing only groundwork, I tried for a double leg again at about 30% effort and I got a little bit of the same nerve feeling. Now I feel like I can't shoot for doubles and maybe even singles might be too much of a jolt to my neck/shoulder. It feels a little demoralising because I know there's a lot of wrestling that doesn't require shooting for a takedown, but it feels like the main offensive tool of wrestling that's practical for mma is shooting for singles/doubles and I might not be able to do those.
@andrew386178 ай бұрын
Hello friend, you need to rehab your neck first and then very slowly reinforce it with neck Curls, neck Extensions (straight and lateral) and static holds on the bench (no compressive force). It takes time, but it's worth it
@lordsneed94188 ай бұрын
@@andrew38617 thanks.

Leg dives popular in freestyle and similar competitive styles but in CCC i learnt a huge variety of takedowns including hypes, hooks, head chancery and bar, sweeps, back heels and many from behind your opponent - inverting your opponent when stood behind him, with a crotch-hold is difficult to block or defend. Of course, there's always Greco Roman.

I’m a 5’2”, 108lbs, 50yo woman who can still, to this day, challenge anyone to either pick me up, or take me down , and they fail every time because my only recourse is basically defense. I’m squirrelly as phuck, and my dad taught me at a very young age to use someone’s weight against them, since I’m so small. Had wrestling been an option for females back in my day, imagine how formidable I’d be with proper training, lol. 😉

You'll never be that good at wrestling if you didn't do it in high school and college however the best way to learn wrestling is to go to your local high school program and sign up as an assistant coach.

As a CCC and freestyle wrestler since late 1950s and later coach, I find Jiu Jitsu similar to CCC but less mat work. Still think this site is helpful and the presenter a good coach with his attention to detail.
