Just found out about the loss of Sir Ken. Brilliant and inspiring. Such a shame successive UK governments didn't take more notice of him. If they did our children would be better prepared and happier. Rest in Peace.

Interview with that Mexican lady left me in tears when she pointed out that education is a privilege. I admired her down to earth character, her wisdom and the way she handles the education of her kids alongside her work. The key was that she assumed a supervisor position and involved her kids in doing the house chores. So many moms do everything by themselves or get little help from the kids. By a wise management, moms should be able to convince the kids that they need to help her without resentment. It usually doesn't happen because parents can be short tempered with kids and can be harsh towards them, which in turn engenders resentment within kids and the relationship gets into gridlock. Since parents are grown ups and have the defining power in the relationship, they bear the responsibility to straighten their relationship with kids and let them take responsibility, let them do things without force. RESPONSIBILITY IS THE KEY! Anyways.. congrats to that lady for establishing the necessary order in her house with love and wisdom. The more I listen to the conversation, the more I realize how wise that lady is and I wish my wife would be someone with such wisdom too. Oh man, I really love this interaction. Late sir Ken Robinson did a great interview, his little comments and very much necessary explorative questions and the hearing what she has to say...amazing

Fantastic interview. And the long list of resources in the description is tremendously helpful as well. I love Sir Ken so much, and am absolutely gutted that we have lost him so soon. But I am exceedingly grateful for his legacy, and all of the work he did on behalf of learners and educators (such as myself) everywhere around the globe. On a personal note, my heart broke to see him light up in the beginning, with the mere mention of his granddaughter, asleep one building next to his. His daughter Kate is so articulate, like her father. Blessings and much love to their whole family, always.

It's amazing how we are all thinking abut the same problems. No matter where in the educational system you are, ministry, heads, teachers and parents. We are all "acting", (making actual) a revolution. Having the chance to observe how this is going on with parents who can't read or write, I can't be be amazed at how this is putting upside down everybody's beliefs in terms of schooling. The school we´ll go back to is the great challenge of today. We may be shaping that school today. I can't but be grateful to be living this.

An indescribable loss, first and foremost to his family. His passionate beliefs and principles have been a touchstone for me throughout my career and that of so many other educators. We will all miss his presence but the best tribute to his memory is that we all take forward the causes he believed in.

I am taking the opportunity to unschool my children and to home educate with some real life lessons. We took the opportunity to spend time with each other, we have been cycling, skating and exercising every day, we do gardening together, wash the car, make fires, play games. They seem to be less anxious and more grounded. We have to work (parents) and they will sometimes help. They have been showing a great respect for the environment, awareness of waste and our impact in nature. They have been researching about things they like, creating massive dens, bonding as siblings, expressing themselves creatively, dealing with their own boredom, finding their own solutions to their problems. We are in the Uk but speak Portuguese at home, their Portuguese has improved massively. We are adjusting to the new ways but I am really considering home educating them. We have ups and downs but I think it has been really good for us to be in lockdown. I have decided not to send my 5 yo to school on 1st June... he said he will never want to go back to school again. Lovely to hear other similar experiences.

As a teacher i applaud you, no i love you. Education system in Aus and probably the whole western world stifles and dis-encourages individuality and creativity.

I just knew he is no more; heartbroken!! If I have to name one person who played the biggest role in my way of thinking, learning and teaching - it was him. Besides, he was the only person I rate alongside Merkel, Attenborough and Obama, yet the only person I assumed was free from butterflies in the stomach before every talk. He reached our hearts with his humility and humor. He will always be remembered, and continue to influence kids and adults everywhere!!

What a loss to education and to our society. Sir Ken was a brilliant speaker - funny, wise and humble. I loved his TED talks and a real warmth and sense of no judgement came through. He just wanted to see change in education and as a teacher, I wholeheartedly agree. My sincere condolences to his family.

I run a thematic learning program for homeschoolers. We integrate all school subjects into exciting hands-on learning experiences for grades K-6. Students get to choose their learning activities. No textbooks, worksheets or tests. Just fun, real, whole-person learning. It's very powerful because the kids love it and ask for more! We plan to grow this into a full-time program for the families that want it.

Thank you Ken and Kate. Ken, I have been following your work for years since watching your first famous TED talk and super-impressed with the direction you are taking. I am an ex primary school teacher and in later years worked with disengaged youth using the Big Picture learning model...around passions/interests/needs. I am currently exploring ways I can use these learning models to work with young people around the world via the use of online technologies such as Zoom etc. All the best from Down Under in Shepparton, Australia.

Issues are similar around the world. Puerto Rico is facing the compounding effects of a hurricane, an earthquake and also the pandemia. Public education and private education had a similar model of classroom and paper, command and control. This has forced all people involved to teach online and shift the methods with no experience. Students and parents had to adjust to a new way of learning. It really showed all of us how many poor people do not have access to the internet or computer equipment.

I am a drama teacher based in Argentina, trying to teach Drama to KS1 via email, not all my students have steady access to internet so Live virtual lessons would widen the inequality among them. I am devising a project via email, all of them can do it at their convenience. Parents have been very pleased so now I am including them as "players" in my planning. Very challenging yet creative endeavor, everyone is just doing their best, yet collectively we are doing something I have never ever thought possible.

A lot of respect for you Sir Ken. The school system in UK needs change they also need to get up to date with the digital world. My son is in year 4, in schools they moved the curriculum so that the younger years now need to learn the year curriculum for the year above. There are more mental health awareness issues cropping up. Even Canada, my sons cousin of same age emigrated the from UK and is in year 3 there, and usa start school later. Myself, born and educated in UK. I spent a lot of time abroad on family holidays and missed almost all of year 4, but I became a solicitor and got good grades, I was a nerd. I really believe it is the desire of each child, what they wish to pursue sports/math/law/business. Pushing kids, and too many tests, is not a good move. Finland is a good example to copy. Homeschooling, one silver lining, chance to learn more real life skills and family bonding. We've been doing art, cooking together, daily sports etc, most of the online homework & freestyle learning, just that time together with less time tests/ pressure. Ps. Ofsted, putting extra pressure on teachers and they on kids.

God bless you Ken Robinson.

Within my context (Cape Town, South Africa), just the thought of passing over the role of educating our children to their parents leaves me feeling anxious. A recent survey I conducted among roughly 250 parents, as to whether they/their children were receiving the learning resources I had been sending via social media, yielded 27 replies of which 10 were negative! So if 5% are receiving material I'm sending, I thought, then it means I'd have to devise means for the other 95% to get up to speed should/when we return to school. And that, amid an adjusted curriculum. So I'm back at the drawing board for another solution and welcome any relevant suggestions from members within this community. Thank you for sharing these insights from others around the world Sir Ken!

So great Sir Ken that your authoritative voice is helping families during lockdown. I echo the sentiment around changing the type of education that parents are able to provide children at this time. Perhaps it is a good opportunity to do more on the 8 Cs that you talk about a lot (creativity, communication, critical thinking etc). I started a project on this exactly this pre Covid that I am happy to share for anyone that is interested - essentially quick and fun conversation starers like "What would name a new colour?", "How can we reduce traffic on the roads? or "When is it good to fail?": www.KidCoach.app
