Here's how to model the 3rd of 16 basic part tutorials. You can slow down the KZbin player to 25% to see it closer to the speed I recorded at.
This is the current user interface as at 31st December 2020, whereas the full length tutorial is done in the older interface.

Love your videos! And I have watched just about all of them. I am totally new to Fusion/ CAD software but have some background in vector software such as Flexi 8.5 and some Corel Draw. My question is, would it not be easier to click and drag a couple of boxes then "join or combine" the boxes together than to use the line tool to make a sketch. Easy example, if I wanted to make a "T" shaped sketch in Flexi I would click and drag a horizontal rectangle then click and drag a vertical rectangle, so far only two clicks, then click to join or make the two rectangles one object, three or so clicks total. Seems like using the line tool you have eight clicks to make same object. I'm not sure you can make the "T" shaped object in Fusion the way I described it or if it would really matter. Just learning how to create objects and outlines is s bit different and teaching an old dog new tricks is always challenging. Thank you for your informative and concise videos, I greatly appreciate them!

Thanks for your kind works gsibertjr, the 'old dog new trick' saying looms larger for me the older I get. There are several approaches to CAD, I've seen a lot of the ones like Fusion which are parametric and I also designed houses on Sketchup for some years. My hobby is Adobe Illustrator, one of those vector drawing programs. You can do those boolean operations in Fusion 360 as you describe however the parametric approach has some significant advantages. You've seen how we use geometric and dimensional constraints, you can tabulate parameters (see MODIFY, Change parameters) and same out a family of designs with varying sizes for example. In engineering and manufacturing companies this becomes much more important and most of the more expensive parametric CAD software has some kind of configuration capability which is driven by a design table. This would be an interesting topic for a video some time.

Ive just recently found, and subscribed to your channel. I am a machinist and often asked to make, repair or modify parts, and I make crude "drawings" of the parts for future reference. I like the 2D drawings made with Fusion 360, they look fantastic. I am a computer moron, with no experience in CAD and Im curious if this software could work for someone like me, or is it far too advanced? I dont have any CNC machines, and probably never will, but I enjoy how you draw up the parts, and can "section" through them to see different features. One example you had was a hole that mated up with a part at an angle, then when you sectioned it, it was realized that you couldnt make the hole that way, and you clicked on something else, and made it a "drilled" hole. Im using a laptop and that is what I would load the software on, it it is something an old dog like me can comprehend. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you certainly make it look easy!!

Craig, I'm delighted to have you following my channel. Have a go at loading up Fusion on your laptop, it will usually work on an old machine if you don't try anything advanced. Take your time to learn at your own pace and please feel free to ask any questions. Your experience tells you the true value of what you see, wouldn't it be fantastic to be able? I'm soon going to do some basic tutorials on producing those 2D drawings in Fusion 360.

Hi Arnold, Happy new year to you down under. After practicing and refreshing my fusion 360 skills with your 16 page tutorials i came across a problem. While drawing a shape and then correcting the measurements i found it difficult to change the angles i needed of the desired shape. Can you advise or show a video or link.

Thanks Chris, its good to be back in the chair despite the summer heat. Just so I know where we're going, 'angles of the shape', I take it you're meaning the angles of line within a sketch rather than the orientation of the 3D model in relation to the reference planes, right?

@@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 Yes the angle of a line within a sketch. So when you create a free hand rough out sketch shape as we did with the most of the tutorials and then correct the dimensions of the lines tangents etc, i want to be able to put the correct angle in a shape that i roughed out, just like i did the line sizes, I wonder how its done.
