The way information is taught in high school differs from college, which differs from medical school. Here’s what you need to know about how teaching and learning styles vary between each stage in your training to become a future doctor.
High school is the most structured and least flexible. You don't have much choice over what you study. College is comparatively much more flexible, not only with regards to what you study, but also your schedule day to day.
Medical school is a hybrid between the two. The pressure is on to be a self-directed learner, as most of your studying and learning is done outside the classroom, on your own. There are also several different modalities used to teach beyond just simple lecture or small group time.

Great advice! In preclinical years, I think interactive sessions are MUCH more engaging, like anatomy lab, problem-based or team-based learning! We had POM too (termed CPP = clinical and professional practice) which has proved SO important in daily practice as a doctor, when it comes to ethical scenarios and difficult decisions! I also found it very useful to be an anatomy instructor for younger years - you learn through teaching!!

Hey doctor jubbal. Thank you so much for this helpful video - Sincerely, a struggling Syrian immigrant in Sweden having to do high-school all over again from 0. I got an F in every subject for 1 year. Yes. 1 year. During my summor job at a factory I solidified my idea to leave engineering and become a surgeon. It's not like I'm an engineer or anything. I thought I'd be in university for that when I came in 2018. I finished high school back in the UAE but my parents couldnt afford to pay for my degree. Maybe this was a good thing for me after all. Anyway I'm still at the start of the start of the way. I better buckle up its gonna be very painful :) You're an inspiration

It’s really interesting to see how different it is depending on where you study. I study in Switzerland and it’s totally different. For one, we have 6 years. And we can start right after high school. The first 2years are preclinical. So there we have all the biochem etc. but further we also have histology, esp in 2nd year… like every second week. Anatomy is …. Cut apart cadavers to eg look at leg muscles in the first year. Then in 2nd year we have it every week and dissect ourselves. Due to covid we were only groups of 4 which was great. The lectures also cover the physiology of pretty much the whole body. Then in 3rd year the clinical stuff starts. Pathology etc in the lectures. Pathology in histology. And clinical skills training (anamnesis etc). And throughout the bachelors years (1-3) we also have PBL once a week. Again, more interesting in 3rd year. Starting year 4 we spend approximately half of the time in hospitals. One semester of lectures, then 6 months in hospital.

Could you make a video about students who didnt take premed course in college but studied in medical school?
@Benboy887
@Benboy887 2 жыл бұрын
You have to take premed courses because they are prerequisites for medical school admission. You could major in something different of course. I knew a music major that did the medical school prerequisite classes and got in.

I absolutely understand the need for learning the basics but at the end of the day I doubt it is easy to find a doctor that can name every bone in the body, describe in detail each organelle within the cell, or how many valence electrons an atom has... a lot is a waste in al honesty.
