Fair play for trying! Nothing ventured, nothing gained… I’m not gonna lie, my multistrada PPF was fitted professionally and they cut it into specific sections and it was a kit all pre cut to the shapes of the bike.

I have vinyl wrapped and ppf my bick, took some practice, the trick is the have the right sqeegy and solutions to work with. You need slip solution which is baby shampoo and water as your application and to help with the corners make a tack solution which is purified water and 99% isopropyl ratio is 1 to 5 with every 100ml. this stuff works super fast so use it to help tack down your ridges first and keep applying the shampoo were you need to reslip making sure you pre shampoo the area and pre shampoo your piece. Pre cutting is a much easier finish but if you don't use extra sharp blades but let your edges dry a little or use the tack then once 100% dry use heat to finish your fold. Hope this helps if you ever try again !

I've installed film on areas of my bike. Easiest way is to make a paper template, transfer the template on to the film, cut the film and install it with water etc. areas that have compound radius' area very difficult but you can use separate pieces in them such as the tank on your bike.

People don’t realise how difficult wrapping is. I have wrapped my R1 4 times. It was an extremely painful process. The curves on the motorcycle are insane. My first time wrapping was a botched job. The second one was decent. Third one got better. Fourth one is the best one I’ve done so far. PPF is even harder. It’s thicker than the wrap and has more structure to it.

Well I tried the same with my vstrom650. Starting to learn from the front fender/plastic as we know/...and...yes it did not work out.😢 Then i took the fuel tank off the bike and brought it to the "Llumar" representative workshop in my town. After two days the called me to pick it up. Transparent because my tank is black, 120 density if I remember. It was one of the best spent money so far. P.s. about 75 usd if i convert it correctly. Sometimes we cannot do it ourselves..but it is important to know the people who can do it. Thanks for the video!

More interest to me is wrap front fork to gold or black color. This my plan for now. PPF is great but not visual changes, only damage protection.

When you have execs material and complicated turn or bulge and foil is getting wrinkled you must cut perpendicularly to the curve. When you do that it stop foli from stressing and wrinkle and you can squeeze it to form.

Ceramic coating and PPF do different jobs. A ceramic coat won’t stop your bike getting scratches, swirl marks or chips. PPF will. You can’t apply PPF to a ceramic coat, either.
@mathiasnkristensen
@mathiasnkristensen 3 ай бұрын
@@poonchild That's literally what ceramic coating does. It stops small scratches from entering the clear coat. PPF will prevent deeper scratches, but ceramic coating still protects the paint to a certain degree.

@@mathiasnkristensen Matey, i've a bridge to sell you. I've had Ceramic coatings on multiple bikes and it does nothing of the sort. If you've bought it for protection from scratches, then i'm afraid you've wasted your money. IT looks nice, keeps the bike looking shiny, and adds a water-repellent coat, but thats about it.

I heat up the foil and stretch it beyond the edges wrapping it around them and underneath, so that the foil pulls on itself - it seems to work best. If you leave any cut unstretched, it tends to unravel. I started doing the same with vinyl and it works there too.

On the headlight I would have used the film from the first attempt to make a template, then use the template to size the next piece that I would have cut out with some super sharp scissors. On my Bmw R1200RT that had ppf professionally applied it looks as though the film doesn't go all the way to the edge but finishes about 1-2mm from the edge of each panel. I have no idea how they cut it so perfectly though. The only way I could think of getting this result is by making a template first out of some other material.

I tried vinyl wrapping my track bike years ago, it was an absolute disaster that almost ended in my best friend (who was helping me) and I coming to blows. So when I wanted to get my Ninja H2 PPFed, I handed it to a professional and paid the money, no feelings wanting to inflict GBH involved. Fair play for trying, and for posting the video even though it didn't work out.

@@mandrakejake and where did they get the experience, they had to start somewhere, they once started and have decided not to give up. There will never be shame in giving up, giving up and realising that you don’t have the right personality for a particular skill is part of life but trying to see if you can learn that skill is a valuable lesson either way. If you succeed you have learned a new skill, if you don’t you have learned that the skill at hand is not what you’ve been born to do and thus you can move on to the next one. Trying to pick up a skill and failing at it is still better as not trying and just waisting time by not being productive or mentally active. I am 18 years old and I have learned about more things than I can remember just for fun, I learn about things to not do anything with it and just forget it while learning about something else just to keep my brain active. I have failed to learn about quite some of those things and a grea example is chess, I have tried learning this and lost interest but my brother picked it up like riding a bike. Different people will easily learn different things and that’s why you should always try new things

You need a sharper knife to cut PPF and a Teflon squeegee works better, I'm not a fan of water and dishwashing soap, but AVERY application fluid has some alcohol in it to assist with drying, try stretching it gently around edges like the mudguard to get rid of bunched up film. PPF is tricky to apply no matter what brand you use AVERY Denison is probably one of the best. Retired Signwriter here

i have a video suggestion, use your phone as a 2nd speedometer by connecting your bike with Bluetooth OBD2 (different bikes need different something-to-OBD2 conversion cable), connect the OBD2 to your phone, open up live engine information from any apps, place your phone on your mount, bam! you got more information about your bike displayed.

Any transparent film is just a pain to apply imo.. I applied a red transparent vinyl wrap to my xj6 diversion's windshield and it's really not as easy as regular vinyl... Everything you described happened to me too, the edges that don't stick and are hard to trim cleanly, the curvature that creates bumps etc..
