The idea that critical thinking is significant to our humanity seems to be a bit over stated.

How so?

@@LearningandTechnology Because it seems to imply that a relatively narrow category of creative endeavor accounts for an (I think) inaccurately large portion of those things that separate human thought and consciousness from that of other animals. That's not to say that critical thinking is insignificant in that analysis, just that I have the sense that it takes a smaller slice of that pie than I thought you had alluded to. On the other hand, I thought you might have been being intentionally hyperbolic. Either way, I appreciate your question.

@@mybrainhurts3727 I see - most definitely I would be over-emphasizing elements for impact. It’s certainly not intended to be a comprehensive examination of everything that makes us human - that would be a much different video. Also, I’m not even remotely qualified to define humanity in all its nuanced forms 😀 I hope I always retain enough intellectual humility in those endeavours! 😂

I dont think you can overstate the importance critical thinking in any endeavor. Friend or foe? -the outcome of that relies on critical thinking. Good creative relies on critical thinking as part of the toolkit, not one or the other.

@@cr8cat794 You might want to apply some of that critical thinking to examine your own words. No, actually, allow me to demonstrate the use of an alternative tool for this task; Intuition. The asking of a question like whether one is a friend or a foe does not have an outcome, let alone one reliant on critical thinking. One MAY receive an answer, but an answer is not an outcome of asking a question per se. One place where critical thinking could be utilized is in place of the kind of intuition that allows one to discern proper verbiage. For instance, in the sentence where you used the word 'outcome,' the phrase "coming to a rational answer" would have been far more appropriate. However, your idea would have still been incorrect, as the premise that coming to rational answers is reliant on critical thinking is not true. In fact, I would never recommend the use of critical thinking in examining ideas like this, and I have come to the realizations I have through intuition instead. In other words, without the intention or intellectual rigor necessary for critical thinking. Your mistaken thinking was plainly apparent without immediate effort. It seems to the degree that you have honed your critical thinking, you have done so in vain, as I have not, and yet I have demonstrated that my intuition is sufficient, both to discern the quality of your ideas and to deconstruct them. The reality is, that critical thinking is not nearly as useful as intuition in ordinary life as critical thinking requires time and contemplation. If you were to put more stock into honing your intuition, you would speak less clumsily, think more clearly, and have higher-quality ideas. Don't bow down at the altar of critical thinking. It's useful in some applications, but as a tool for the masses?; not so much. It's been a fad trend in the West for a time, but this will die down when we realize how much time we've wasted concerning ourselves with it because of the false promises of its peddlers. But that's my opinion.
