There's a child's story, a satire, most of us read called ....The Boy who Cried Wolf.... He cried wolf so many times without it happening that he desensitized the population. When the wolf was really there no one did anything. One day the end of the world will come and few will prepare And we won't even be a memory...we will be gone

wrt to the Y2K thing. I realize you are too young to really remember, but the Y2K bug was real. It took the work of tens of thousands of IT professionals 3 years of hard work to set the conditions to mitigate any potential problems. Two things worked together to make it the "meh" it became: 1. the fast pace of computer hardware and software development meant that systems were being replaced very quickly in the 3-4 years of the late 90s and 2. Massive releases of software and firmware updates really did prevent a real software bug from being a real world problem. Literal billions were spent to do this. Unlike climate change or population explosion, Y2K was a real thing that real work prevented.

Good point. It reminds me of the "ozone hole" caused by the use of chlorofluorocarbons. It was a potentially catastrophic environmental problem. But once the cause was identified, and CFC substitutions found, nations around the world cooperated and brought about a reversal of the ozone depletion.

What about the aliens? Aren't they coming in 2027? Or is that one real?

They're already here. They won't make open contact until they believe that we, as a whole, are ready. We're not ready.

Uh, my dude, I think you jumped the gun on the AI thing. AI barely even exists yet. When it becomes sufficiently intelligent (generally agreed that when it's smart enough to write another version of itself), the more likely result is infinite progression beyond our ability to control it rather than a subservient tool that acts on our will. The only real question is what it will do when it's not restricted by the limits we impose on it.

Only Humans can ever be creative. Computers will become better and better in assisting in the creation process, but they will never be able to think creatively.

@@LearnLibertythat’s quite an assumption. AI already writes stories, poems, makes art, solves problems… 🤷🏻♀️ And, as the commenter above says, it only even got started five minutes ago. I think it’s WAYYYY too early to call this. AI was only imagination during 2001 A Space Odyssey.

I studied media and wanted to make movies but never pursued jobs because in my country it's easier to get in to news and i new i wasn't interested in silly or scare headlines
