My 4th and 5th fingers on my left hand are showing me that they haven't contributed to my daily living for quite a long time. That two notes for every one note challenge is WILD!!! I discovered you about 3 weeks ago when I learned that I inherited a baby grand piano that arrived last week. I haven't played since 5th grade aka 40 years!!!! You explain everything perfectly and you make learning fun. Thank you for all that you do.

I'm a beginner and started working on the hands together at the 5:35 mark. Yes, indeed, it is very difficult for me! It helps to know that the right hand does a thumb tuck on the way up the scale and the left hand does the thumb tuck on the way down. It's a real brain workout!

I´m talking to you from Maceió, Brazil. I´m 76. I started learning the piano when I was 12 in a prep school in the UK. I had really bad teachers, so I stopped having lessons, but I never stopped playing and trying to improve. Your videos (and videos of other great and generous teachers) have been an eye-opener to me and really helped. I´ve improved significantly because of you and others. So thank you. Gordon Moore.

Hey Jazer I gotta say thank you so much for the free piano related content. You're really helping a lot of people like me out, but I had a question for you... What would you think about doing piano related livestreams? It could be a fun way for you to interact with your fans. You could let fans send in musical pieces that they would enjoy watching you learn and play and also you could answer in real time to some of the more nuanced piano related questions your viewers might have at the time. Anyways thought it was a fun idea

It will take a little while to go from similar motion to contrary motion. C is not difficult, but the more sharps and flats you have, the more challenging contrary motion can be. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hi, I need the following lesson i.e next video for this
@anesthesiabeyond85193 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this video. I have been following you regularlyfor few months. It has been very helpful for me, a beginner. I have a question for you. You teach us to keep all finger on key low, as low as possible, perhaps. But some other teachers ask to raise fingers to struck keys with force to train beginner’s muscles to be stronger at beginning phase of study. This conflicting way of approach makes me a bit of confused. Would you please comment on that? Many thanks🙏
@jazerleepiano3 жыл бұрын
Good question! All pianists have different philosophies of technique. My reasoning for keeping fingers low is for security and control. My problem with raising fingers is, a lot of beginners end up not building finger independence. They raise fingers and it affects how the other fingers behave, this isn't good. That being said, raising your fingers to strike keys is also not wrong per se. If you want to train this way, I suggest starting the action from the key bed- touching the keyboard with your finger before it comes up high to then strike down. Hope this helps.

What do you think of this fingering for chromatic scales ? Right hand ascending starting on C: 123451234545 and repeat; right hand descending same fingering - if starting on C 1545432154321. Left hand ascending starting on C is 543215432121 repeat; descending (starting on C) 5121234512345 repeat. What I like about it is A) there are only 3 hand positions per octave (2 moves) as compared to anything with a traditional thumb tuck involving at least 4 positions, 3 thumb tucks per octave, if you want to use the same fingering on every octave and not a 2 octave pattern before repeating; B) you can use the same fingering on every octave; C) when striking with a given finger on the left hand there is a single unique corresponding finger in the right hand - for example left thumb is always right pinky. The obvious disadvantage is that you can’t do a legato thumb tuck as with classical fingering. You need to jump the hand instead. Unless I do each way for years I can’t tell which approach is better. I’m very comfortable with the 1234545 fingering in right hand ascending, so I think it’s mostly a question of whether I can eventually get the hand jumps to the new thumb positions to be quick and seamless and not lead to uneven accent. If you think this is a bad idea, what fingering do you use for chromatic scales, or does it vary?
