Piano I am now 64 years old. My eyes were blind at the age of 60 years old and undergone complete eye surgery for two years. I started out by watching on internet piano lessons for a while at the age of 62 when I bought for myself a 61 keys standard keyboard "Davis 206" and followed the basic piano lessons on the KZbin. But then I had to give away my piano because someone, a close relative, needed to learn the piano notes more than I do however, I have a plan of buying again for myself, hopefully by the end of 2023. All I do now is practice those finger exercises like arpeggios on top or at the edges of a table, and imagining those few basic exercises I was then doing. I have saved those simple and basic arpeggio lessons from the internet and still watching on them most of my time. There is not much for me to do here at home, always getting bored day in and day out. I remember that it was playing the piano, even with those basic finger movements on piano keys, they all produce creative moments that induces good feeling while enjoying the freedom to play whatever keys that combines to produce some sort of emotional comfort and stress relief. It is like my automatic fingers on top of a typewriter without looking at the keys. The difference is experiencing enjoyment which can only be felt on top of a piano keyboard while listening on what the fingers can express. Sent from vivo smartphone

It's amazing how you found a way to continue your passion for playing the piano despite the challenges. I hope you're able to get another piano soon and dive back into playing. It truly is a source of joy and creative expression. Keep practicing those finger exercises and stay positive. Best of luck to you!

I am writing from Germany. I am 66 years old and started playing the piano about 3 years ago. AND YES! I can highly recommend the book 'Scales and Arppeggios' you referred to to all piano players. I bought it shortly after I started. Very, very helpful! And another tip I can confirm: Practice slowly! Once you have accidentally trained a mistake into your muscle memory, it is exceedingly difficult to erase it again.

After many years of study, I've discovered that playing scales competently (and fast) greatly increases your ability to play advanced pieces. There's just one catch: to get the maximum benefit from playing scales, your repertoire (and your sight reading ability) should be advancing right along with your more rapid scales.

A new subscriber here. Really appreciate this video. You asked your viewers to identify what is their biggest struggle in playing fast on the piano. For me it's hand independence. For scales, it's playing left and right hands simultaneously across multiple octaves, since the fingerings are typically the mirror image of each other. In general, I find that hand independence presents the greatest challenge in improving at the piano, particularly in mastering songs where the left hand might be playing a rhythmic pattern (e.g. a stride or blues pattern) while the right hand is playing the melody.

As a drummer who is dabbling in the piano, I can attest that slow = fast. Get the fundamentals and technique down first, and speed comes naturally. Also, that Grand Scale was amazing!

For me, the most difficult part is when you have to press the same key multiple times.... Sometimes the second/third time it doesnt sound at all (when you go fast)

Great video. I'm not new on the piano. However, I am new to playing the piano correctly. Your fingers are so close to the keys (the way they should be), and you're going so fast that I can't catch which fingers you're using. I'm referring to the grand scale. I can hear the scale but I can't make the finger technique.

A metronome should definitely part of the equation, particularly with scales and arpeggios. Playing fast is one thing. Playing fast in time definitely takes a more accurate approach.
