Quick tip- After mixing the epoxy flip the plastic bag inside out and cut the corner off the bag. You can then squeeze the epoxy directly into the syringe and not waste any or get it all over trying to put it in using a mixing stick.

Or even better; mix it in the syringe instead of the bag

Or spend $2 on a mixing tip though there are waste inside the nozzle it saves time and no worrying about unmixed epoxy being used. Probably waste the same amount stuck to whatever you mixed the epoxy on.

Love the wiring being taught! I have a 2yr tech degree and just got a job with a military company that puts a lot of trust in their techs. I pick up a lot of tips from this channel.

I’m very tempted. Having spent time as a race tech and now coming to the end of a motorsport engineering degree, stuff like this isn’t taught, the fundamentals are spoken of but never in such detail. Very tempted to cough up for the full course and make myself a test harness

I really enjoy these technical videos with high effort craftsmanship. On joins that I know are in relatively low temp areas, I piece of hot glue inside the boot will melt as you shrink and make an excellent seal. Also, you don't need to mix the epoxy, just buy some mixing nozzles!

Why not use a mixing tip on the epoxy tube? It will mix the two parts as you dispense it which you could do directly into the boot, or if you still need the small tip of the syringe you could use the mixing tip and dispense it directly into the syringe. Would be a lot faster and cleaner than mixing it by hand.

One step not covered here was keying up the boot and heat-shrink surface. this can be done with some light sandpaper which vastly increases the bonding strength and protects against sheer fractures which occur from lateral tension. We performed tests to verify the difference, one had the DR slide out the boot leaving the cured glue behind in the boot and the other tore the heat shrink before the glue bond fractured. This is at least working at two motorsport harness manufacturers in the UK Prodrive and Progressive motorsport. Great video though, for low temperature environments a simple piece of ATUM crimped closed when hot works in the vast majority and would be a cheaper alternative for homebuilt harnesses.

Love for your channel which looks so informative and aesthetically appealing. Before starting the wiring, do u conduct any electrical circuit simulations for the electrical components being used?
@hpa101
@hpa101 Жыл бұрын
It depends a little on the components and the level you're working too, but generally yes and a common term is 'bench testing' if you want to look into it further 😎 Depending on the specific components there will be a few different ways to approach that too along with testing the harness itself - Taz.

I wonder if you could mix it in the bag near a corner, then once mixed, cut the corner off of the bag and then do like a cake maker and squeeze the bag into the Syringe. Just a thought. I have never done it before. Anyways. Thanks.

Not to sound like a cheapskate, just a guy who wants to race and have a quality harness, but I know that I'm not at the level where a proper milspec harness is needed. Are there more budget friendly alternatives to these molded boots? I know I'd love to get something like this for my future harness builds but it's hard to justify $500 in molded boots for a non sponsored SCCA/ Gridlife car Thanks love your courses!

What's the application difference with lipped and non lipped boot?
@motocrazy2012
@motocrazy2012 2 жыл бұрын
Lipped boots are required when using a boot on an AS connector, the lip grabs onto the knurling on the connector backshell. non-lipped boots are more likely used for transitions where the lip is not nessicary.

@@eduardonogueira2545 ohh you mean the option for people to submit subtitles in other languages? I believe they removed community captions a while ago (unless they reversed that decision). At the same time they could be inaccurate and we wouldn't know. We take the time to manually upload our own captions in English rather than using auto ones to ensure they are correct. Without speaking the language it's really hard for us to know whatever we do with captions etc are actually helpful. Just while you're here, how do you find KZbins auto captions used on other videos that are then translated for you when it comes to technical content? Are they a mess like they are in English? - Taz.
