Hey guys, as some of you might have noticed, the last minute has no audio of me. IDK what happened, sorry about that! But those were only last comments and reminding you that you should go watch the first episode that came out on Show It Better. Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmiul2Sdr79ji68

Another fantastic video from your collaboration with Showitbetter :) I really like the fact that you show examples how you both give examples how would make it better. It will help all of us by seeing all examples of all great portfolios nonetheless! Congrats to all people who submitted their work! Great work, keep it up! All your videos are always much appreciated :)

6:33:". . . This gives me chills --- These drawings . . ." I thoroughly agree. A cross section, like the one drawn by Filip Popovic, illustrates the designer's knowledge and appreciation of structural design, choice of materials, proportions as well as site placement. I really enjoy this portfolio review series.

Thank you so much Oliver and Steven! You guys are doing the Lord's work, my graphic design skills have gone up the roof ever since I started watching your videos. I know I haven't submitted my portfolio yet for your reviews, I'm still getting done with school, but wait on it for sure!

Oh yes! Now is the time. And not to spoil anything, but Steven and I will most likely record the next two episodes in person 🤫 We haven't told anyone about this yet. But you then can submit your portfolio for the next episodes!

I'm trying to get inspiration from these, but truly it is just *beyond* frustrating to watch, because if THIS is what I'm competing against, I don't even have to try! I am not anywhere close to any of those projects. I don't even understand how their works look so cohesive, especially the students portfolios. None of my visualizations look anything alike because I'm still learning (and basically have no idea what I'm doing, just glad if it turn into anything at all). Do they go in and re-render every single thing they made?
@LearnUpstairs Жыл бұрын
Hey, @honey5236! Sorry if the video made you feel that way, that wasn't the goal. It's not fair to compare ourselves with random people around the world, they might have had a totally different educational background and are going through a completely different architecture program than you. That doesn't mean they are superior because of it. I know it can be frustrating, I've felt what you're feeling multiple times... The purpose of the portfolio review episode is to gather interesting portfolios together and generate a discussion over them, therefore possibly showing the audience new ways to present architectural work. It's important to know how to adapt to your reality and background. And yes, most portfolios that look that good had a massive amount of work behind them to re-render and curate all images to look cohesive. I believe that's a valid type of effort, but it shouldn't deviate too much from your identity and original proposal. I see it this way, you shouldn't add every drawing and image you have to a portfolio, but rather select a few strong ones that can tell the story of that project. And tweak and enhance a bit (if necessary) to be in its best version. Lastly, keep in mind what year you are. Some portfolios you see may be for masters application, or even later from people trying to find a job. So comparing a second or third-year architecture portfolio to someone applying for grad school is not fair. Again, I hope you don't take the portfolio review episodes the wrong way! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help in future episodes.

Rendering scenes stresses me out so much because I’m just starting to figure out how to make stuff look more realistic and portfolio 2 just colour grading and using a colour overlay makes me so happy I’m gonna go that route and try their style and branch off from there.

@LearnUpstairs Жыл бұрын
Thanks AriDaro! That’s a great suggestion! The thing is that we don’t receive many interior design portfolios, but I’ll sure try to pick one for the next episode. Also, I know there are a few key differences in interior design ones, so I might need to do some research first 😁

what size is best for page , A4 or sqaure ?
@LearnUpstairs Жыл бұрын
I don't think there's a best format for a portfolio page, it's about preference and what you feel fits best with your projects. But I'm a big fan of A4s, but then I like square a lot as well haha. Too horizontal pages are not really my favorites

In the end of the video the audio bugs
@LearnUpstairs Жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm aware... I really don't know what happened, tried everything I could to fix it, and I thought I did. But once it came to youtube, it bugged again. Thanks for spotting it! During that last minute, I only mentioned the first episode on Show It Better and said the last few words like bye and all of that. Thankfully it didn't impact the video understanding in any way. Sorry about it!
