Made this key ring today! It didn't come out as nice as yours and I opted not to stitch but overall I'm liking the design 👍

Great video Thank you. You are good at or are reminded to frame the shots quite well. Nothing worse for a learner to have to guess at the activity just out of the frame! Thanks

Another beautiful video, thank you for sharing it. you are one of the best out there. i have a question though... i made a belt first i oil the leather than i use brown stain some antic and dark brown diy and finally i used tan kote, and for the edge i used gum tragacant, but i notice that on the belt are starting to appear some discoloration i mean that in some spot and on the edges the Diy is almost gone and the leather is not looking nice anymore. the belt is only 5-6 month old what do i doing wrong?# sorry for my english i leave in Berlin Germany...and thank you again

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Regarding your question, it's hard to say, I'd need to see what is happening to the leather. Also, what type of leather are you using? Did you apply the edge gum before staining or after staining? If after then the stain didn't get absorbed by the leather and is wearing off. It might also depend on the type of stain and antique stains you are using. Some antique stains have more wax in them and that might also be preventing the stain from absorbing evenly. When I 1st started working with leather I also had similar issues with certain stains and finishes. Eventually, I figured out what I could and couldn't do with the brands of products I use. If you have a leather supply store near you I would recommend taking your belt to them and showing them what happened and how to prevent it next time. That's usually a good place to start. Anyways, I hope you find the solution...

Thank you for your reply, i buy my leather products from a leather shop owned from an old shoemaker who never used those products, i really trust your judgment thats why i ask you so much... i use fiebings antic and fiebings stain, but lets say i wanna dye the belt with only fiebings oil dye do you think should i first slick the edges from my belt with the edge gum and than with the fiebings oil dye? or vice versa? i also have some edge kote shell i apply the edge kote too on the end or before the gum? I am really sorry to ask you all this questions but i wanna make this belt before Christmas..in a good way. Thank you again for your time. ( :

Dye needs to be applied first before adding your burnishing agent. Worst case if the edges still need work just sand and repeat the process untill satisfied

Thanks for the pdf and tutorial but it seems that the pdf pattern is slightly different than the one in the video. In the pdf the two pieces doesn't seem to fit together.

Hi man, nice video. Can you please tell me where you bought the rotary sander you are using at 0:49? And is it worth it in your opinion? Thank You in advance.

It's a Dremel Rotary tool. It has many functions besides sanding and I use it all the time on just about every project. You can also buy professional burnishing attachments for most rotary tools that work great as well. Dremel tools are fairly inexpensive. The rotary tool is about $50 - $200USD depending on which model you select. I spent about $150 for the rotary tool and flex shaft. Most seasoned professionals all use a rotary tool like this for a multitude of leather working tasks. Although I do recommend that if you want to invest in a rotary tool to get one with adjustable speeds. This is an important function when working with leather. You can buy a Dremel or similar rotary tool just about anywhere in the US. Walmart, Low's, Home Depot... or at their online store.

Hi, I'm assuming you are referring to the stitching horse. Yes, it's handmade. When I 1st started teaching leathercraft through workshops I needed a lot of these and wasn't pleased with what the store had to offer, so I made a bunch for my classes. Still using the same stitching horses after all these years...😉
