I see a lot of Muslims taking issue with apostates from their religion calling themselves ex Muslim and pointing out that Jews and Christians usually don't. However, former Jehovah's Witnesses and Scientologists often do call themselves ex Jehovah's Witnesses and ex Scientologists. What do ex Muslims, Scientologists and Jehovah's Witnesses having in common. They come from faiths where there is a lot of stigma against apostacy.

It is very common for us ex-JW's to refer to ourselves as such. JW's and Islam have a very strong similarity in many respects. Whilst the shunning of those who leave the Witnesses or Islam can be brutal and frightening, JW's, at this stage, won't try and have you killed ! My wife and I have been TOTALLY cut off from parents, siblings and former friends for nearly 24 years now.

@@petertocher6845 Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry to hear your family cut you both off for so long. It really is bewilderingly horrid. I imagine the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society has charity status in many countries and may one day loose this in some or all if it doesn't change this policy and money and power do seem to surprisingly effect how the Governing Body (that is, the [anything but] faithful and discrete servant spoken of in the Bible) figure out what God wants.
