My husband has been greatly influenced by a hyper or radical grace pastor. I find a lot of his teaching to be heretical but he uses a lot of gaslighting techniques to make you feel bad about questioning grace. A lot of Melissa’s comments on manifestation reminds me of how the hyper grace teachings focus on over-riding sin or the need to confess. I would love for you to address this in your conversations. Thanks so much for your channel! It has been super helpful. As a side note, I was taken to one of your dad’s college events when I was in high school and was angry and hated what I heard! However, God used that experience in my journey to accepting Christ a year later so I’m so grateful for his ministry, and now yours!

@@SeanMcDowell While I appreciate Melissa's testimony, I have difficulty with her putting Christians who belong to a Word of Faith in the New Age category. She does this on a consistent basis. The very idea that Phineas Quimby, a metaphysical teacher from the 1800's, is told by Miss Doughty as the beginnings of WOF is incorrect. That idea has already been disproven but somehow, she continues to share that narrative. If her facts are incorrect, how then is her conclusion about WOF considered correct?

"Like, hey Scoob, why do you think apologists and theologians start with step 2 and ignore the fundamental question? Why is existence better than non existence. It makes it easier for a theist. Just define God as perfectly good, then his nature is inherent in whatever he decides to conjure up. God in the Abrahamic faiths never bothers to explain why it was better that he created everything instead of not. Is a small percentage of souls finding eternal peace and joy while the majority find eternal torment mathematically advantageous to no existence at all? Was God just lonely? Is it true that you are nobody until somebody loves you? Thus God could not be love unless there was someone else to love him back? Can love exist in a bidirectional sense just within the Trinity in its purist form? If so it could only go downhill by introducing angels and material beings into the mix. Whatcha got?

@@skippy675 lots of Trinitarians argue that the three persons all eternally existed in a perfect state of love before the creation. I agree with you that this doesn't really work as there is then no need for the universe. But I'm not a Trinitarian, so, whatever. No eternal hell either. As for why something is better than nothing... This is obvious to everyone who isn't an anti-natalist. But suppose hell isn't real. Now there's an infinite good if even one person is saved. @@fluffysheap thanks for your thoughts. I don't subscribe to any faith in the current marketplace. What I try to do is reason through any and all of the claims that are out there, as well as any ideas for the necessity or goodness of existence I may have. I get stuck in the same loop. The evaluation of whether existence is better than non existence depends on one's view of the terms (heaven or not, hell or not etc). The rub is that we can't evaluate the claims fully without knowing for sure what the terms are. We can't know what the terms are for sure during existence because they are defined as unknowable, matters of faith. Literally, the best we can do is pick out the faith claim that most resonates with us and go with it.

Really powerful discussion. Thank you for sharing your story. I had a friend who described herself as Wiccan, but definitely had some New Age thrown into it. I was traveling through Oklahoma to visit family in North Dakota and decided to stop by for a couple days. Now, my idea on things is that I don’t judge what people believe. I can choose to not believe it myself and think they are wrong, without judging them as a person. To be honest though, the way she described the world was terrifying. She claimed to actively see forces of light and darkness, believed she had magical powers and such. Her and her friends effectively believed that they were in “The Mortal Instruments” series. Referred to me a “mundane” and such because I couldn’t see it. They didn’t mean it as an insult, just a state of being. Long story short, after a couple days (so as to not appear rude) I left and never went back. It was one of those things that, from the outside, I could tell they were messing with things they shouldn’t be, and I wanted nothing to do with it. I still pray for them, but it’s not something I could be anywhere near.

At about 17 to 18 minutes into this video I had to pause and listen to it again. Melissa was saying how the spirits in the New Age seemed to be angered by a Biblical world view of Jesus. He could be an "ascended master" or "a son of God" but to consider him "the son of God" or "God in the flesh" unique from all creation, this would anger the spirits. This point fascinated me for some reason. @Melissa Dougherty if you'd be comfortable answering this I have a question. How were you able to tell it angered the spirits?
@margaret37852 жыл бұрын
@TheMicDropProphet I can’t speak for Melissa, but using Melissa’s questioning, I confronted my New Age “Christian?” daughter about her beliefs. I felt I was talking to another spirit. When I asked her what Jesus means to her and who He is to her, she became so angry and cruel in her responses, but refused to answer the question. Even the spirits know Jesus. For the New Ager who was raised in Christianity, I believe they know deep down something is rocking their beliefs and it threatens them and their new chosen form of existence.

Melissa is terribly confused. Word of Faith has nothing to do with New Thought. We don't believe that "like attracts like" based on energy, vibrations, and frequencies. We believe that God responds to faith in His Word, and there's a ton of Scripture to support that view. In fact, that's how you get saved. (Rom. 10:9,10) I've done numerous videos on these issues. I would welcome a dialogue with Sean on what we believe.

Crystals. I have turned my back on all that, but I was very interested in using them, hoping they would heal. I remember feeling force from quartz, and that could be piezo electricity, it’s how computers tick, and quarts watches, come to that. I remember feeling like I’d been kicked in the gut, winded, by a piece of quartz, and I get the same feeling from Wi-Fi, close to my body. Can’t hug my iPad! Very unpleasant, but I wanted to understand and was rather pleased to be sensitive to it. I thought this was some esoteric thing. Atoms do vibrate, that’s scientific, right enough, and a pure arrangement of atoms (a crystal) I presumed does too, and it was explained to me that we vibrate too, and when sick, we don’t vibrate as we should (really?). A crystal with the right vibration might be able to retune your sick body, make you better, like simple harmonic motion (remember your physics class?). Sounded good. And they’re so beautiful, and I loved that God made them happen because of his laws of nature. (Because of each element’s unique atomic structure they can only form their particular distinctive crystal forms, which fascinated and please me, and so beautiful) Colour and chakras were also involved. Ooh and don’t forget the high priest’s garment was studded with crystals/stones, to represent the tribes of Israel, so that’s all right then! What a shame to hijack God’s beauty. I actually healed myself. using crystals, and I watched a whopping bruise mature through purple to brown and disappear in 40 minutes. I fell in the shower and bashed my shin. That injury hurt like crazy and should have hurt me for ages, but the pain went. I was very impressed and thought I’d found something wonderful! So please don’t say these things don’t work. Ask rather what or who’s using crystals to convince you, what demonic power? Do not go there. Do not. I repented and got rid of them.

Oh I’m so glad to find a new age video that’s still fresh, so maybe you might answer my concern, I hope so! And thank you I was into new age, so I’m very suspicious about it popping up in church. Last night the person leading the prayer asked us to visualise Jesus and what he’d look like, how he was there, looking at us, waiting for us, perhaps reaching out to us, or whatever. I once knew a spiritual intuit and she said “see” but don’t visualise, it’s dangerous. I don’t exactly know why, but I’m inclined to believe her. So is visualising Jesus as the image in my mind not a bad thing to do? Sounds like my invented Jesus for one thing. Can you say anything else about this please? Thanks very much
@makaynach2 жыл бұрын
Hello Bella Bee! As a former New Ager and ex hypnotherapist, I would strongly advise against using those types of visualisations in your prayer life. They are occult techniques that open doors to counterfeit spiritual experiences disguised as truth. “We are told by some to visualize Jesus as we pray. When those into imagery and visualization believe that the "Jesus" being imaged in their mind is not just a image, but the real Jesus, even going so far as to dialogue and touch Him, then they have opened the door to counterfeit "spirit guides.' You might think you're focusing, on Jesus. You might have a real spiritual experience. But, when you create Jesus in your mind, He is not the historic Jesus of the Bible. He is The Jesus of your imagination, and the Bible warns about "another Jesus.' And many through these techniques have testified that the Jesus they encountered was not the resurrected Christ, but another Jesus, a counterfeit, "an angel of light" impersonating the Jesus of the Bible.” You can read more about this in this article: www.letusreason.org/NAM22.htm God bless you!

It all boils down to following and obeying the Holy Spirit. But why desire to live a life without embracing and believing Gods great and precious promises and the price Christ paid for our healing, forgiveness, and abundant life??? God’s sovereignity ends with our free will. Otherwise, how could He ever have the fulfillment of our choosing to love Him? Hence, in His sovereignity, He gave us free will.

Letting go of access to spiritual power…… the Bible tells us that the spiritual realm is his and the revealed is ours. I understand that to be the physical. The occult is the hidden. “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law." (Deuteronomy 29:29) That told me yes it’s all real, but I’ve no business messing with it. I let it go, and trust the Lord that it’s his business. It has left me very worried about some of the things that spiritual Christians want to do, and I’m not good at discerning what’s really the Holy Spirit, because I don’t want to go into the spiritual realm without the Holy Spirit with me, and so far he’s not shown me, so I stay firmly in the physical, the ordinary. And Jesus is enough! To reiterate, you can have spiritual experiences without God, but don’t go there, it’s dangerous, and he tells us not to for a very good reason - he loves us. It’s all for our good. He also rates obedience highly!

The lens you come to scripture with will determine what you see in it. The Word of God is not some magic incantation that gets you saved or gets you what you want, or even need. It is a description of a reality that exists - which is why Christian faith is about relationship. A live relationship with a living God. Nothing wrong with positive confession, but it changes us. aBrahamic logic , Moses/Jesus/Mohammed believing. (Judaism Christianity Islam) is based on messiah hero worship. They constantly over hype their 'son of god ' to market themselves since there is no God in aBrahamic logic. Brahmic logic ,SELF believing (Sanaathan Dharma, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism) is based on Cosmic laws, Nature laws/worship, knowledge gathering, defining divinity as symbolism thru images, Stone dietes..etc Worshipping Nature's forces, elements, animals birds plants is a core part of Faith....combined with individual Self consciousness, self inquiry , self realization.. Nature/Universe around is manifestation of God
@sarahlaslett32792 жыл бұрын
I think by your list of various religious figures, following on with various natural elements and finally "self realisation, self inquiry, consciousness etc you have come full circle to favouring/endorsing New Age beliefs. Aspects of nature do reflect God's glory but they are not God. They are creations not the Creator and as such should not be worshipped. I may have a fabulous dress on that does something for me but the dress is not me. We are to worship the Creator not the things the creator made. You set Jesus in a line along with Mohammed, Moses, Brahmin logic. But Jesus does not belong there. Jesus was God manifest. No other in the line were that or claimed to be that. The gospel of John begins with "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word was God. All things were made through Him. And without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men." The Word of God is Jesus. If you are really interested in finding out the truth about Jesus please read chapter 1 verses 15 - 20 in the book of Colossians ( in the New Testament) whoch gives a powerful description of Jesus. Jesus said "I am the way, the life and the truth" You need to give serious consideration as to whether Jesus was speaking the truth or not. And whether you are going to follow your ideas or Him. Please consider this that there will come a day when you will stand before Him in ration to the truth.
