Yes, I love this. Yogananda isn't the only guru in my life, but I still say good morning and good night to his photo every day-and when he does speak to me, it's undeniably him as opposed to a spirit guide. But the guru is definitely inside me- an impossible sense to really explain in words.

Thank you Brother. It is so helpful to hear your experience and insight. Becoming part of a community and having serious teachers is new to a lot of westerners and Americans. It's so good to be reminded of the necessity of having our own agency in being the student, having teachers and becoming our own teacher eventually.

Incredible video ! I'm speechless Sri M studied with MANY people after finding his Guru, he studied with Krishnamurti ..etc - his Guru encouraged it, this is a great teacher, one that doens't try to make you feel guilty but only cares about your progress and mind expansion and progress and being a well rounded human that can help their family and the world. God bless Forrest

Hey Forrest, Mway here from Nairobi, Kenya. Your words have a certain field of resonance that is like music I haven't heard before yet sounds so much like home. I started with the 3 breaths per minute HRV video about a year and a half ago and its been so much of a gift that keeps expanding. Your videos have grown for me from being instructions and manuals to bliss to now being simply an automatic meditation. I can simply put your videos on and spontaneously combust into this spaciousness that has become part of my yogic skillset, as you term it. Thank you for making this available especially for people like me whose backround would not allow such a candid and wholesome scope on Kriya Yoga. Pranam. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Sometimes when I feel "stuck" I'll click on a new YT video. As you said, there are many ways of saying the same thing. Some of the random clicking has led me to a deeper understanding and many other times it seems like marketing. Your teachings are so simple yet deep and I have used them to answer questions other meditators have raised. Thank you!

Same for me. I feel like Yogananda directed me to Forrest. Forrest presents the lessons in a way that I understand. Yogananda’s wording was so confusing and I couldn’t bring myself to do the hong sau. Something about that didn’t sit right with me. The resonant breathing makes so much more sense to me.

6/2/23. Wow! Thank you. This is pretty amazing. Have been involved w/ many teachers, since the early 1980's. The last major one was Sogyal Rinpoche, who passed in 2019. Thank you for mentioning: "Kill the Buddha on the Road". That is a Zen Parable. I too have been in front of many teachers, including Mother Teresa, in Calcutta, December 1989, and H.H. the xivth Dalai Lama, in Dharamsala, March -April, 1990. Thank you. merci. Julian

7/26/23. Wow! I am still way overwhelmed, by "all that happened to Sogyal Rinpoche". He passed in 2019, Thailand. Last time I saw him was 2016, California. All my way close friends had been with him for years and decades. I used to be in such awe and extreme reverance for all things Buddhist, especially Tibetan Buddhists. So, (briefly), I was way involved in research into life of Theos C. Bernard, (1908-2004). Found his book on "Hatha Yoga", Feb. 1982, in Bombay, whilst attending: Annual International Transpersonal Association Conference, at the Oberoi Hilton, Bombay, Feb. 1982. While conference was going on, was asked, during break to go w/ some individuals, up an elevator. Up we went, to 'whatever floor', we walked down hallway, into a rm. that had others all gathered around, in the middle of group was: Babaji! I had no idea who I was viewing. Had only been in Bombay a few days. Was in the rm. w/ Babaji about 45 minutes. Then, we all went back down to Conference. Wow! Mother Teresa was there, H.H. the Dalai Lama was to have attended, but was sick. Place was filled w/ way famous people, authors, etc. So, 'round 1984, started writing people in India about Theos Bernard, and his sudden death, Northern India, in 1947. By 1987, was back in India and Nepal. Went on my own Buddhist pilgramage, and met w/ Dalai Lama and his associates. At: The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, I interviewed elderly man, who remembered seeing Theos in Lhasa, 1937. Was also put in touch w/ Jigme and Mary Taring, in Dehra Dun, who were mentioned extensively in Theos' vol. from 1939, of his travels through Tibet, entitled: "Penthouse of the Gods". This was in March 1988. Anyway, Theos and his family had connections all over the world. He was related to famous Sufi Master: Hazarat Inayat Khan, through marriage of Ora Ray Baker, a second cousin to Mary Baker Eddy and her 'half brother' was Theos' uncle: Dr. Pierre Bernard, aka. Oom the Omnopotent. Amazingly, Pierre Bernard, was way famous Yogi, on the East coast, around the turn of the century. So, 1988, wound up receiving letters and postcards from a Kamala Gertrude E. Murray, of Calimesa, Calif. She found out about me, through an advertisement I'd been told to put in: "The Middle Way", The Journal of the Buddhist Society, of London. Turns out, that a female Buddhist Nun and friend of Kamala's saw my article, and contacted Kamala, who then wrote to me. She was a caregiver/ student/disciple of Glen A. Bernard; Theo's father, and the whole Bernard family, in the 1950's-1970's. She invited me out to California. Her house was a museum, of Tibetan artifacts from Lhasa, that Theos brought back w/ him from India and Tibet. In her main dining rm. area was a huge Tiger Skin rug that Pierre Bernard had bought from P. Yogananda, in order to help P.Y. on his travels, when he 1st arrived, in the '20's. The Bernard's were living in Northridge, California then. Kamala told me of a huge list of 'whos who", in the Indian and Buddhist circles of California at that time. W.Y. Evans Wentz; Lama Govinda; P. Yogananda; Alan Watts, etc....One of the absolute horrors she witnessed, back then was when the father: Glen A. Bernard had taken all of the many boxes of letter and correspondence that Theos had from all around the world, and pored gasoline on them and set them on fire, in a large trash can! She was just absolutely devastated. But, he had lost all hope. Had Theos returned, they already had plans to set up a school environment where Tibetan Monks would be brought in as future teachers. (Very close to where Ronald Reagan had his retirement ranch, North of Santa Barbara). Two of these were to have been: Gendun Chopel and Geshe Wangal, author of: "Door of Liberation". Theos Bernard never made it back from his destination of North India. Kamala specifically told me, he was on a journey to find the Tibetan manuscripts that were discovered by Nicolas Notovitch, in the 1880s's that mentioned Jesus having traveled to the region of Srinagar, Kashmir and northern India, 2000 years ago. His party was attacked by Hindu's during the separation of India and Pakistan, Fall of 1947. He was dressed in disguise, and may have had beard etc...to blend in better w/ natives. He was shot and thrown into a river. His body was never recovered. In 1990, I again reuturned to North India. Again I stayed w/ Jigme and Maryla Taring. Had ventured up to Kulu/ Manali area, where Theos was staying, 1946. Met the eldest son of Prof. Nicolas Roerich, and he told me, that his father had warned Theos not to travel "right then". As also had Swami Sivananda, of Risikesh, U.P. warned Theos, as well, when Theos was passing through Rishikesh, on his journey North, in 1946-1947. So, in 2004, With all my papers, recordings, notebooks and photographs an author by the name of Doug Veenhoff came to my house, and I shared it all with him. In 2011, he came out w/ biography on Theos Bernard. As did Buddhist scholar Paul Hackett, a year or so later. Theo's Tibetan collection is now scattered all over California, in Museums and Libraries. Have yet to see any of them. Blessings to thee, dear sir. I so love watching all of your videos. Theos had major yoga teacher, in Ranchi, Bihar. Not associated w/ P. Yogananda. Blessings to thee, dear sir. Would love to get your book. Sincerely: Julian. Boulder, Colo. Aum ah Hung!

Hello Forrest, great video with such a fantastic message. Growing up I only had Jesus to learn from, and looking back, I recall his most profound phrase to me was 'the kingdom of God is within', however I never was offered access to HOW to manifest that kingdom. Thanks to you dear friend :D I now do have access. so thanks :D for all you do.

Well described Forrest. Just sharing..Lord Dattatreya or Shri Guru Dattatreya is a Hindu deity considered to be an aspect of the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. The Nath tradition of Shaivism has originated from Dattatreya and he is considered to be the Adi Guru or the first teacher of the Nath sampradaya (or tradition) and the followers of the Nath sect. The followers of the Nath sect believe and it is found in their literature that Lord Dattatreya had 24 Gurus including the earth, water, air, fire, sky, sun, moon..and so on.

There comes a time when every 'seeker' must realize that they already are what they are looking for. Why have so few realized this? because the mind keeps telling us that we will find what we are looking for 'out there'; in a teacher, or a job, or a relationship. Only when we turn our eyes around and look within will we 'find' what we are looking for; in the Silence that is here and now.

Western presuppositions naturally and unconsciously make their way into our spiritual explorations of Eastern spiritual traditions. We grow up in one culture or another like fish in water which is invisible to the fish. The free book Buddhist Romanticism explores this phenomenon in Western Buddhism. This teacher is really speaking my language. Great video. So many scammers out there and this does not appear to be one of them...protecting from the dangers, answering questions about the process, providing a safe platform that safely and adjust its speed to the student. Seems to make sense for sure. My Guru is Yeshua or "The Word". All others are submitted to him, knowing it or not imo (which is my authority). Also normally I do not appreciate paywalls however I have recently gained insight on how important it is to support teachers (they need it even Buddha taught it). I also heard somewhere "pay for the truth but never sell it" . And in this case I very may well be on board. Perhaps "when the student is ready the teacher appears" is true. I separate "spirituality" and "the tools of competence". One without the other is for some, but not for me at this time. With my newly enforced concept...no authority but the divine within, I feel the statement..no more middleman. (I have one exception ie "The Word" which is within)

Nobody of us owns anything in particular. We do not have a patent of some exclusive knowledge. All the knowledge is inside of each one of us, and it is the same for all. We need to free ourselves from all kinds of illusions and "lila". Playing is OK, but one has to know that we are only playing "life". Our true life is eternal and nothing else. Once we are the clear channel, we can get all the answers from within us. That is the only way to come into the possession of any kind of true, eternal knowledge. So, we fertilize each other, and we can also "download" all knowledge directly from within our spiritual heart! How wonderful is that!

My problem is that the criticism that occurs once someone leaves a system. One video that I watched had a lot of statement that Self Realization's techniques were wrong. A lot of churches criticize other churches as if they are the only one teaching the right path. That really turns me off about religion. To me it seems like a big ego thing. My school is the best, my country, my church......
@ForrestKnutson

That might have been the video with my guru, Ashokji. Where he expressed very plainly his disappointment when he realized that the technique which they represented had been altered and they never bothered to bring it up to him. After years of practice you have to attempt to understand the level of betrayal that you might feel in that moment. Nowadays this understanding on the history of the technique is common knowledge. But in his time it was not and the shock of it was overwhelming, along with the regret for your own years of wrong practice.

Have a great day, my brother and teacher. It just hit me that I CANNOT imagine what it would be like NOT to have a whole bunch of your ideas in my heart, mind and in my breathing EVERY day. 🕊✝

Namaste Forest, many greetings to you. I have been initiated into kriya yoga by YSS earlier this year. I have some form of clinical depression, and kriya yoga is increasing my fear and anxiety. I have asked YSS and didnt receive a satisfactory response, as many people were unfamiliar with psychological concerns. Should i stop the practice of kriya, or continue it with a limited count(mild),etc? I am very enthusiastic to practice kriya. I seek your guidance and help sir.

As always thanks so much. And a dumb question that just occurred to me, is the way that the mind / brain projects into the chakras the same way we relate to what we perceive as the outside world?
@ForrestKnutson
@ForrestKnutson Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's exactly right. So anything that we hold inside becomes part of what we see outside. Psychologists called this projection and the chakras give us a wonderful tool to understand all of this projection.

I have an older video called spiritual survival. I talked about starting with your minimum. So start with 5 minutes of meditation everyday and no matter what the UPS & Downs of your practice keep your commitment to that 5 minutes. This way you start to create a wonderful habit that sustains you no matter what occurs in your life. Now you can begin to build on this time and the days that are conducive you growth at 5 minutes into however much meditation you can handle that day.

I found this talk so interesting! I need some help, please. The Kriya path has been calling me since the start of this year, and I’ve obliged, but I am so green! I don’t know where to begin in truly feeling into and understanding the chakras. Information overload on line. Can you suggest reputable sources? I’m on #9 in the new SRF lesson series, btw. I’m hop-scotching all over the Internet for direction. A kundalini class here, a Kriya asana series there. I have so many questions. Yes, my true guru is within, but I need basic tools (mantras, etc) to not be spinning my wheels! I do the asana sequence daily and log into SRF meditations online. But I feel there’s something I’m missing in this limited, disjointed approach. 🙏

There are so many videos on this channel and they all have have excellent comment sections. So i feel like my question has already been discussed, but what exactly is kriya initiation and is it required to practice kriya yoga. Is it something akin to reki attunement? Which i also have no idea about whats involved.

@@ForrestKnutson Forrest, you have really explained the internal debate that I have been srtuggling with for sometime now. I have been in the yoga and meditation practice since the 70’s but feel that I have advanced very little in spite of the fact that I do feel much nearer to God. I on e wrote you on an experience I had in meditation and you kindly explained and congratulated me because that was the third eye. I have had some other experiences but have not shared them with you. Attempt to clarify doubts through SRF (I subscribed to the lessons and called in but to no avail). I realize that what you have described is just what is keeping me a bit apart from SRF; although I love Yogananda, I feel that the structure is too rigid and allows little flexibility. I am certain that Master did not have this design in mind. I thank you for what you do and feel that there is a possibility that I may decide to come closer to your work and teachings ( I have to clear my sense of guilt since I so love Master and am ever grateful to him for all his work). Is there a way that I can communicate with you and have a sense of the lessons and how they may help me continue the journey. One of my purposes of the lessons was to be initiated in Kriya but have been unable to take that step. Thank You, Forrest, for your time and devotion to God and your patience and high sense of non attachment. Om Tat Sat! Luis M. Rodríguez

Dear Kriyaban Forrest Knutson, I saw your video ‘Leaving Yogananda’, and in my opinion you are on the right path. One thing I could not agree is your view on Samadhi, which is still state of the mind. Practicing Savikalpa Samadhi according to Lahiri Mahasay should be regular Kriya Sadhana, which he terms it Kriya Parawashta. If you are still looking for the original Kriya, without modifications, I could recommend you one of the books which is on your bookshelf, ‘The Divine Incarnation of Panchanan Bhatachariya Chief Disciple of Lahiri Mahasay’. The author, Swami Satyeswarananda, has received Purna Kriya directly from Mahamuni Babaji at Dunagiri Hill, and maybe you can find some useful information in his more than 50 books.

I agree that his system is probably incomplete. Raja yoga is a spiritual science and I think if certain parts are missing from this problems will arise because it's incomplete. I don't understand why he would leave out certain important parts. Doesn't Yogananda know that this can create problems for people? I'm sure he knew this

Dear Forrest, I deeply respect your decision to try and live the life of a monk. And I can certainly see why you would have your problems with the organizational side of things, with what Yogananda called "churchianity". I do think, though, that you misrepresent Yogananda's teachings. First of all, he taught exactly the same thing which you seem to have discovered only later: that finally God is the guru and that it is his job to bring you to Him. But it is not logical to conclude from this that there is no such thing as *your guru*, meaning one guru with which you have a very sacred and special relationship and who is your way to God. In fact, when you read the Autobiography, Yogananda is clearly talking about Sir Yukteswar as "his guru". Also, in his "Whispers from Eternity" he is praying to his guru, not *his gurus". Or would you have a quote where he calls his father his guru? I would be very surprised. Of course, you have every right to not believe in this or to say "This is not for me". But to say that it is "a misunderstanding" is just good old dogmatism. The very thing that you claim to criticize. Also, it think it is a pity you resort to such click baity titles, when you are not at all talking about why you left Yogananda but much more about why you left the organization.

Why people are afraid of saying that Yogananda may be renowned guru world wide but he is not great disciple...he changed his guru knowledge ..Lahiri baba was against opening the ashram,lahiri baba was against teaching it openly,lahiri baba was of view that it was very pure and secret science.. Above all yogananda deleted the kechari mudra...Again he may be great known guru but he is not great disciple... He even declared him as last living Kriya guru.According to me Yogananda break the true original lineage of kriya yoga that was taught by Lahirii baba.....Guru ji correct me if iam wrong.....❤❤
