How hard is the job to do by yourself with a friend, both mechanically inclined but never did internal engine work? I‘ve already swapped turbos, countless intakes, exhausts, headers, changed fuel pumps spark plugs ect but never something that required getting inside the engine. Is it really that hard? If not, what‘s the complete parts list I would need to assemble everything again? (on top of opg, cs and damper). I want to be running 8000 rpm with a gt350 manifold and I drift the car. Such a shame ford went cheap on the opg.. look at the 2jz oil pump assembly and the coyote design will look like a bad april fools joke.
@Smasher-Devourer11 ай бұрын
You only need OPGs if you're running a 2 step or maybe a TT setup. You'll chuck a rod before your OPG's break.
@marklowe74313 жыл бұрын
Are you sure the MMR is aluminium? I'm pretty sure they are steel. The factory are powder sintered which makes them strong but brittle.
@coyotekelly71436 жыл бұрын
Do the drop test. Also I heard that the Rev limiter causes them to break. When you slap the limiter very hard it causes vibration and breaks them.
@LebanonFordInc6 жыл бұрын
We actually did the drop test and they broke on the second drop. They didn't make the video because a drop test on a brittle metal OPG isn't exactly a fair test of strength since they will never experience a drop while in the motor. From what i am told, even upgraded OPG's will break during drop tests because the brittle metal isnt designed to take drops. Thanks ~ Chandler

Many dealerships have a “no side work” policy for their technicians working in the shop. Any work done in the dealership - including work on personal vehicles - must be on a repair order for liability reasons. I wrenched at a Ford dealer with about 60 technicians and I can say it would have been difficult to sneak an oil pump gear job onto a timing chain tensioner repair without management finding out about it.

Another great video!! Thanks for the thorough coverage of this mod. I know it’s a must to change the half shafts under high horsepower as your previous video has suggested. What about the driveshaft? That might be worth covering also.
@LebanonFordInc6 жыл бұрын
Great question- The driveshaft isnt nearly as weak as the half shafts. Its one of those other "peace of mind upgrades" that is really only necessary for a seriously drag oriented car where the force of the launch could cause a break (slicks, big power, hard launch, etc.) If your goal is to have a serious drag car, just go ahead and do it for peace of mind. It blows my mind how no one addresses oil level and crank slosh 🤦🏽♂️ especially on a gen 1 with only a 7qt capacity, why do you think ford kept increasing oil capacity throughout the generations? 7qt gen 1, 8qt gen 2, 9 qt gen 3, 10 qts gen 4. Gen 1= most of that oil is going to be up in the motor, leaving the crank to just thrash any oil in the pan and coming back into the pan from the drain ports in the heads. Keep your oil levels above the fill line a bit. Every fillup, check it and top it off. You wont hurt your motor OR the OPGS trust me. And stop using 5w20. Use Shell Rotella 5w40 even if bone stock. And change it every 3k miles. Do some digging, i think AED tuning made a few videos about the oiling system of the coyote motors, he does a great job breaking it all down for you.

@LebanonFordInc6 жыл бұрын
Truthfully, once you push around the 700WHP level you should definitely start considering them on a 15-17 car. However, even if you dont have that much power, bouncing the car off the rev limiter as well as spinning past the factory rev limiter will also cause problems. At 5:56 he says the MMR's are billet aluminum? Doesn't he mean steel? The stock pieces are powdered (sintered?) steel, I believe? I've asked before: how much does it add to one of your builds to add a set of OPG's? I'm assuming it would look like this: a customer orders a car from Ford through you, you put whatever power adder on, and you have that all bundled up into a ridiculously attractive price -- so how much to add gears to the package?
@LebanonFordInc6 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, I did state the material incorrectly, a couple guys already caught me on it, though i cant exactly make a correction to the audio on a video. Anyways, we do the OPG install for $1,699 which naturally is the OPG, CS, all new gaskets, crank bolt, etc. ~Chandler

Top tuners say you don’t need them and every Bob John and Fred says you do lol.. my 2019 ESS car had 788 rwhp and has 100’s of passes on it and 33k miles.. you don’t need them if you understand your car. A mustang can’t be over revved, not over rev the car and don’t hit rev limiter doing burnouts or a 2 step if you have a manual car. If you arnt doing any of that then the oil pump gears are perfectly fine.. don’t fall into the trap and pay $3000 for a shop to do this when half the time they don’t line the gears properly from the start and in the end you do more damage to new gears then the perfectly fine stock ones you had in the car haha…

@LebanonFordInc6 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily true. We havn't seen any official release stating that the OPG design has been reinforced or changed. The cars rev higher from the factory leading me to believe that some changes were made to facilitate the higher rev limiter. With that said, on a blower or turbo car that again raises the rev limiter, or a max effort NA build with a very high limiter, I would still recommend them. At the end of the day, its still cheap insurance for your heavily modified setup. ~ Chandler
