With the new Lectric XP Lite version release many wonder if they should go for the cheaper/lighter model or pay the extra amount for the XP 2.0 ebike.

I was lucky enough to get the first gen pre-order sale at $899 plus a free pannier. But at 64 lb and no need for the rack I just use it for pleasure and riding a little bit on the dirt trails, so I took off the fenders, rack and purchased bmx handlebars and reduced the weight and noise. The fat tires looks pretty cool too, like a fat BMX bike. I think with the XP light they knocked it out of the park. For the price and simplicity it's a winner. Most people won't fold the XP 2.0 or especially the premium because of the weight and awkwardness of the folding rolling mass. The company is a blessing and help a lot of ppl to get into this with less money.than other brands.

The XP 2.0 is better value (considering what you get). But I think the XP Lite is the better city bike if you don't plan to go too far or carry anything and your city is not too hilly. Also a better choice for smaller/shorter riders (under 5'6").

Thank you! Honestly, there are a lot of bikes to consider so you may have a tough choice! Normally, I'd suggest the RadRunner 2 but since you said hilly area I'd probably stay away since it only has 1 speed. There are a lot of "RadRunner clones" that may work instead. Such as the KBO Ranger, Espin Nesta, Blix Dubbel, Magicycle Ocelot, Himiway Bigdog, the list can go on and on lol.

Good review. After looking at many e-bike reviews, the XP Lite sounds like the best choice for me to do casual rides on mostly flat ground and be able to pack it in my RV. Interestingly, the price is still "on sale" at $799 (Feb 2024), and at that price, they throw in a free "carry package". The carry package includes fenders, rear rack, and water resistant pannier bags. I prefer the simplicity and robustness of a single speed compared to a derailleur hanging down that can get knocked out of alignment when packing the bike (although a 7 or 8 speed internal hub would be nice)

My only complaint is I wish they would have kept the 7 speed gear. I can deal with no fenders rack and forks. But man that 7 speed coupled with pedal assist the 2.0 has made rides so easy.

Liked this review a lot. I am actually selling my XP 1.0 because I'm short 62 year old at 4'11 and the bike was a just a tad too tall, and too heavy for me to lift into my car. I did purchase the Lite as what I really wanted was something I could handle and still have power when I needed it. Yes, I will probably regret not having fenders, but I don't plan to drive an electric bike in the rain and I just want to ride a bike without worrying about weight and height.

Oh people... why everyone automatically assume that the purpose of launching the Lite version was the low price only? There are people who want the foldable bikes to serve their original purpose: small and light! I DO like XP but don't get why foldable bike have fat tires weigh 70 lbs. People pay more to buy smaller and lighter bikes. And this Lite was just a perfect choice for me. Oh, those of you worry about the single speed... please research more about hub-motor type and center-drive motor type. It just make sense to be single speed on hub-motor type. If you want a bike for uphills or mountains, buy a center-drive motor bike with a nice mega-range gear.

I have the Lite. There is one comment common to a most Lite reviews that I want to dispel. The Lite is an able hill climber on hills below 15 degrees. If you adjust the seat height such that you can reach the ground with both feet tip-toed, you'll have enough pedaling leverage to climb most hills in PAS 3 with relative ease. The single speed is geared for pedaling in the 0-15 mph speed range (PAS 0 - 3). In PAS 4 and 5, you'll spin out, and it's pointless to pedal. Overall, good usable performance. KevCentral is correct: heavy throttle will get no more than 9-10 mile range, and max range (on PAS 1-2) is around 20 miles from the small 7.8 ah pack. I have spliced an extra XT60 connector to hook up an extra 13AH pack that I will be strapping onto the coming rear rack. This should nearly triple the standard range, for longer rides.

I’m tall, but even then the xp lite was able to fit me fine due to its adjustability. I’m 6’4 and had close to no comfort issues while riding the bike. But I will tell you, you’ll definitely notice that it doesn’t have suspension. Other than that the bikes great. Goes as fast as one would really need. But For only 200 bucks more I definitely gotta go with the 2.0 that has a slightly bigger motor and battery, and with the added comfort of the front suspension. The lite is definitely worth it, but at that rate I’d just get the 2.0

Yep I still find it very hard to believe that the price of the XP 2.0 still hasn't gone up, it's crazy! @@ML-kx9gz The profit margins for ebikes in this "economy" class are pretty thin as it is.. and with the cost of everything going up (shipping containers, tariffs for imports from China, aluminum prices, chip shortages, bike component shortages) Lectric cannot be making a ton of money off their bikes priced at $1000. It's getting harder and harder to find a quality ebike in the sub-$1000 price range due to these rising costs of doing business. Most other ebike companies have been slowly raising their prices.

When you are just considering price and features the Xp 2.0 wins. Not only does the cost of adding fenders and a rear rack bring the total cost of the lite much closer to the XP 2.0, but when you also consider the other up grades not even available for the lite, such as front fork suspension, 500 wt motor and larger battery, it actually exceeds the cost of the lite. If you were to add those, making the lite damn near a rip off compared to the cost of the XP 2.0. Weight savings through feature subtraction being the lite’s only advantage. XP 2.0 FTW.

Thank you for leaving a comment! Mid drives are definitely great and more efficient but they as far as maintenance they actually require a bit more than hub drives since it puts stress on the bike's drivetrain, so the chainring/chain/cassette. Both motors have their pros and cons. Unfortunately, If you want a sub $1000 ebike there are really zero mid-drive options, though.
