@@pulsarlights2825 I agree but to me their best album Physical Graffiti came out after he blew out his voice. And to be fair, it wasn't like his voice was horrible afterwards. It was just not as good. I do admit some live performances it was horrible but in general it wasn't. The reunion concert in 2007 it sounds pretty dam good for a 60+ year old man.

I would suggest “Hey Hey What Can I Do?”. It has a more acoustic feel and is still uptempo. Great song. No such thing as auto tune when this song was made.

Hey Hey what Can I Do - great song a lot of people don't know about. Released in a boxed set in the early 90s. Highly recommended. And Going to California - definitely no auto tune in 1971. Developed in 1997.

Yes Lex, this is a Folk Rock song. Jimmy Page playing the six and twelve string acoustics guitars. John Paul Jones is playing the mandolin. Y'all need to do more Zeppelin. Brad, for more acoustic Led Z, try the songs "Bron-Y-Aur" and "Black Mountain Side" or "White Summer".

That’s why Zeppelin concerts are legendary. They were known for 3 hour concerts that consisted of rock, folk, and monstrous guitar solos. I watched an old interview of Jimmy Page, and he said, when they played live, you got to experience all the different the colors and shades…

This Zeppelin Song has great sentimental value to me. I spent 54 years of my life in Syracuse, New York, and 2 of my friends had an acoustic Act and performed this song. Every Gig I attended the Year I left Syracuse, they made sure to include in their song list Going To California, because in August 2017 , I moved from Syracuse to Northern California, and I live about 60 miles from the birthplace of the Hippies Haight Ashbury San Francisco California, and my friends in Syracuse were friends that I grew up with, friendships that covered 40 years, and many of us were musicians🎸🎸 I am a retired Bass Player🎸🎸

They recorded this in a larger home that had wonderful sound effects depending where he was singing in the house. It’s John Paul Jones on a mandolin & Jimmy Page on acoustic. By far, this has always been my favorite Led Zeppelin song. Helped me when I was really depressed as a kid.

No auto tune on the Golden God, Robert Plant :) This is from their 1971 album. It's still Jimmy Page on guitar - he's an incredible composer. John Paul Jones (the bassist) is playing mandolin on this one. I'd definitely suggest The Battle of Evermore from the same album for another real folksy acoustic song (with guest vocalist Sandy Denny) where Jimmy Page plays mandolin and JPJ is on acoustic guitar. These guys really were incredible musicians. That's The Way is another great acoustic folksy kind of song. The third album (1970) has a bunch of really cool acoustic stuff. Friends is amazing; has that acoustic stuff, but still some awesome dissonance and heaviness. Gallows Pole, Tangerine, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp are all in that vein. Hats off to Harper is a very different feel, a tribute to Roy Harper with a panned audio with Page's slide acoustic guitar in the left channel and Plant's effect driven voice (really heavy echo and maybe some tremolo?) in the right channel. Funky, not for everyone, but I enjoy it. Back to the heavier stuff - I'd suggest you do Achilles Last Stand as soon as possible. It has a serious galloping drum/rhythm line for Brad to get behind, and fantastic guitar work for Lex to love. The Song Remains the Same is another with great drums and guitar work. I mean.. it's Zeppelin, the only songs that don't have great drums are the songs without drums - and they all have amazing guitar. You guys can't go wrong.

There are 2 reasons for this song. Lex mentioned about the groups versatility and that is one reason but the other is that when they played live, they played for about 3 hours and during that time a song like this meant they could sit down for 5 minutes and have an acoustic break.

This song is a bit of an homage to Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell whom both Robert and Jimmy were big fans of. When Joni got to the US, she settled in California which had a big folk music presence. Sometimes when they'd play this song in concert, after Robert sang the line "she plays guitar and cries and sings" he'd say "and she comes from Canada". Joni often used alternate guitar tunings for her songs, a skill Jimmy also often used for Zeppelin songs, including this song. Zeppelin have their own connection to California. California is the first place in the US that truly embraced Led Zeppelin's music. It was also the location of the infamous Hyatt House hotel (nicknamed the "Riot House") where the band would stay and was the scene for many legendary "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" type stories. When Jimmy was in California mixing the album this song was on, he experienced one of California's earthquakes, which is ironic considering the lyric "mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake".

I always love when you react to Led Zeppelin - my favorite is a live performance of "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" titled - Danmarks Radio 1969. It's an amazing performance of a very young band - even if you never do a reaction to it - watch it sometime for your own personal pleasure. "If you're going to San Francisco \ Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" Scott McKenzie "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)" (1967) "Stairway to Heaven" and "The Battle of Evermore" were the other two trippy hippie tunes on Led Zeppelin IV. Welsh songstress Sandy Denny joined Robert Plant on "The Battle of Evermore". She was the only other singer to ever appear on a Led Zeppelin album. The band even assigned a special symbol for her on the liner notes to the album. If you've got a thing for angelic voices, then lend your ears to her voice. Her work with Fairport Convention is quite masterful. For a taste, check out "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?", "Farewell, Farewell", "The Ballad Of Easy Rider", and "She Moves Through The Fair" among others.

Love you guys, great choice and my favorite classic rock band of all time. Thanks to my sister who introduced me to classic rock as she grew up in the 70's and me in the 80's. For me it was instant enjoyment. As you probably know by now, man starting over from failed relationship, time in Cali, earthquakes in Cali and shout out to the awesome and great songwriter Joni Mitchell is the song narrative. I was smirking when you said "this is a different sound from what I'm used to from led zepplin" what you guys didn't hear was the beast drummer John Bonham. You can't get the real led out without Bonham. Anyhoo great reaction and don't forget to smoke your stuff and drink all your wine ✌

Brilliant choice guys. Brad, that was definitely NOT autotune, man. One reason is that autotune tune wasn't around in 1971 and the other is that Robert Plant is one of rock music's greatest vocalists. He has no need autotune: he can sing. And the guitars were Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones on the other guitar as there's no bass. You should check out more of the acoustic, rustic side to Led Zeppelin. "That's The Way", "Gallows Pole", "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp", "Friends", "The Battle Of Evermore" and "Hey Hey What Can I Do" and "Poor Tom".
