In the late 80s, I was a freshman in high school and started playing some of my dad’s vinyl. He died when I was 8. I spent the next 4 years engrossed in Zeppelin. About midway through college, I put it down as I had listened to it so much, I couldn’t anymore. I went down a lot of music rabbit holes in the following decade+, all kinds of directions. I would have never been that diverse of a music connoisseur had I not been prepared by the legends. Fast forward 30 years, and here I am again. Going all out. This time, I have teenagers and I’m sharing the love. Zeppelin is timeless, inexhaustible, deep, expansive, and a band for the ages. Sooo much love!

Not only were these four lads extremely talented in their respective craft (somewhat of an understatement), but Jimmy Page was quite the savvy businessman. Jimmy and manager Peter Grant put up their own money to record this album before signing with Atlantic. One could speculate that Page learned a lot more during his days as a studio session guitarist than how to make records and probably got some good advice on copyrights, royalties, and other music business wisdom. It was a shrewd play, but the gamble paid off and they never looked back. Full creative control over the music and nothing less is what Jimmy demanded. Ahmet had no choice. You think he would go against Page and Grant?

Music brings you back to haunting times in the past - in the summer of 1971, I was in the US Army stationed in Ubon, Thailand and living in the Siam Hotel. I had this album on a cassette tape. I was more into Jimi Hendrix and really did not appreciate the artistry of Led Zeppelin at that time. I do now in 2024.
@Mark-tz6ie7 ай бұрын
Jimi is a worthy hold on one's attention, and he was definitely overwhelming, like Zeus throwing thunderbolts. Led Zeppelin was atmospheric at the time but now, with how Hendrix stretched our ears to virtuosity, spatially, poetry, new rhythms, we come back the wiser to reevaluate the Leds. They are superb.

FOREVER my FAVORITE band of all time. I distinctly remember humming “Good Times Bad Times” at my desk in first grade in inner-city Detroit, Michigan (this would’ve been approximately 1979; I was 6 six years old). They were Gods to me. And their music still is the stuff of myths and legends, especially my faves “Whole Lotta Love,” “Ramble On,” “That’s The Way,” “Black Dog,” “Over the Hills and Far Away,” “The Song Remains The Same,” “Bron-Yr-Aur,” “In My Time of Dying,” “Nobody’s Fault But Mine,” “In The Evening,” Travelling Riverside Blues, “Hey Hey What Can I Do,” and my all-timer, “When The Levee Breaks” (but believe me, at least half of each album are faves). Every single member was brilliant as a musician, and as a guitar player I wouldn’t be one had it not been for James Patrick “Jimmy” Page. Their music will live on FOREVER!
