I was there, and Bonzo played his last ever drum solo.. Our minds were forever blown by this epic concert. They played non stop no backup band for 3.5 hours for 10 buck tickets. Compare that with the choreographed lip synched crap that passes for concerts these days.

Conan568 Sadly and unfortunately the record companies realized they could get away with investing less in actual skill and talent and charge 300% more for tickets and the people woud buy it hook,line and sinker...and they did.Feed the people artificial garbage music and charge them 259$ for a show....It's fuckin lame....But people are lazy,gullable and easily entertained.
@TuckFrump-r9h6 жыл бұрын
@Alex Scott The actual truth is that artists make very little money from their recorded music in the age of streaming. Your music can actually be played 5 million times and give you a pathetic royalty check of $1000 or so. The only way to make money now is to tour and make it on ticket and merchandise sales. For the lucky few that have been in the business long enough to have enjoyed the high-royalty days (and saved their money well), this is less of a factor, but they are not going to charge $6 for tickets when their younger competition needs to charge $100+.

@@TheVirtualNHL You really need to fact-check before you type; The reason why the 1977 tour was absent from the 2003 Led Zeppelin, double-DVD was the absence of the multi-tracks to properly remix it in surround-sound like the rest of the performances were; Jimmy Page explained the 24 tracks from this, and two other shows were stolen from his mansion in the early 1980's by an assistant, and unlike other valuable tapes...they were never recovered. Shit? Bad? Hardly. Even on a night where Plant clearly had the flu, and Page hadn't slept in days, they were still better than 99% of the shit that's out there calling themselves "live." @scottrobinson975210 жыл бұрын
Ok just so people understand.... the audio for these sorts of things is just a guide source for the people doing the video. Its usually a very rough mix sent from a PRE-EQ auxiliary send off the mixing console. It's something the sound guy would be asked to dial up at some point during the day as set-up was still going on. These types of things aren't adjusted to sound good, it's just a reference guide for the video crew. All you are hearing is the raw microphones and the gain applied to them. No eq, or compression, or anything else the engineer does to make the show sound good in person will be heard on this tape. It is simply the rawest form of raw audio. And it never sounds good no matter who the artist is. This particular show was also multi-tracked to be properly mixed at a later time. So a good audio source does exist for this show it just hasn't appeared yet.

USED to be rough mixes. These days, recordings are directly from the sound board. I bought a studio quality disk set at a Frampton concert in '11 of the show I was at 20 minutes post-concert.
@Justin_Case696 жыл бұрын
Mainly you are right but this show never was multitracked. It's what it is, video for the in-house system and raw soundboard (or rather monitor mix) recording. There were plans to do this at the later stage of the tour which, sadly, never happened because of Robert's son death. Page even mentioned this idea in one interview where he said that they always wanted to record shows at the very end of the tour (as TSRTS, Earls Court or HTWWW). Too bad he didn't record LA or NY shows from the same year. Our only hope is the video from Pontiac which was recorded with better equipment and the video certainly exists in some, so-called, inner circles.

At this point you could see it.They were not the same but they all know it. They knew age, life and touring was never going to be the same. That being said they did a great job and they seemed to be having fun. The audience probably noticed it wasn't the band of 1973 however it was thier heroes and that's how I feel about watching this footage. I would have loved to see them live. They were the best rock band and probably will hold this title forever. I know they get flake for ripping off music but a lot was traditional and I doubt I would have ever been exposed to it had it not been for Zeppelin. I have searched out all the songs they used and gave them a listen, some a lot of times. I love the original versions just like zeppelin did. These old black men were laying it down. I appreciate black people for what they gave us. I love Led.zeppelin and they are my favorite band but there is no escaping our roots. So God bless those blues playing black men who struggled in those hard times and brought forth this music. Every Zeppelin fan knows where this music came from. The exception is Stairway To Heaven which they did write and this guy Randy California claimed to had it lifted by Page. I admit it sounds a little like it but only for 8 seconds. I don't think he should have sued over it. I mean if he's going to sue for using the same 10 notes maybe the state of California can sue Randy California for using the exact same 10 letters in his name. Peace
@maryjvanderwerken3192 Жыл бұрын
As I understand it, Randy California didn't sue; he died swimming in the Ca. ocean, the person who inherited his estate sued. So just live or do you think in the studio too? I relistened to Presence after many years and I thought his solos were nice on that. In The Evening off ITTOD as well.

I think the whole band had matured in general by 79-80, particularly jones, that if one is educated enough, hears he had continued his studies. however, it just seems odd to me there's always been so many pro-zeps, when the 70s was full of great talent.

His tone and sustain are definately lacking on the double neck.
@snakeone85415 жыл бұрын
Also his dexterity seems compromised. Must be a side effect of drug use and most likely malnutrition and exhaustion

LED ZEP THE MOST DRAMATIC BAND EVER,, feel the atmosphere in the music, many have tried to emulate, these bands are good and I love them, ZEP are in a class of their own, they blasted open a door for today's rock music to continue.

That's because it's a basic unmixed live recording. Original picture & audio tapes need to be sourced for this show, restore it and mix it down etc., get it to the standard of the Earls Court & MSG stuff from the DVDs.

Page sounds choppy and disjointed on this version. Love his greatness, everyone has an off night.

the doors saw it coming back in the 60s, that tech would try and replace the human element. anyone that listens to jazz knows it can't be perfect; that's not it's nature.

Zeppelin on a bad day playing sloppy is still pretty goddamn amazing. Seattle 73 is my all time favorite. Pretty much wore out my vinyl bootleg from overplaying it. Should have put it on Cassette.

I saw zeppling 3 times. Each time Jimmy played the end solo on Stairway to Heaven it sounded differant. He really could never duplicate the studio sessions. Love them but it was a disappointment but what should I have expect. He was into the herion at the times I saw them so you never knew what you were going to get. The whole experience of seeing them live was awesome regardless.
@jerald6023 Жыл бұрын
It's not that Jimmy couldn't, he didn't want to , so as you can hear, he's not attempting to duplicate the solo, he's got a general format, but your hearing the real deal improvising,& thats what it's all about Zeppelin was above all an organic, real, natural band- will never be another even close

I love the live versions of Stairway to Heaven so much. The guitar solo is always a little different and much harder, rougher than the antiseptic studio version. A lot of people don't seem to appreciate that and dismiss them as being sloppy or whatever. If you want to listen to just a carbon copy of the studio version of a song, why go to a concert? The live version has an edge that the studio version doesn't and that makes it better, for me.

That's ok, I've done 8 years on that shit, know what it's like. Page will always be my favourite guitarist hands down. As a guitar player myself I find it fascinating to see the effect it had on him. This is who he was and what he did. It's there as plain as day. Doesn't make him any less great, but it took away from what he was...thats just the nature of it. Once he kicked it he got his chops back so whatever, there's no need to lose your shit over it.

I just wished Robert would have taken vocal lessons in the early seventies to help add some longevity to his voice
@Sophie-jf4wr3 жыл бұрын
I think it was the smoking that messed up his voice, plus he had vocal surgery in ‘74 (I think) which permanently changed his voice a bit. apparently he wasn’t fully recovered by the time they went back on tour

@@Sophie-jf4wr he got nodule’s in late 71 and he never gave them time to heal he just kept ruining his voice till he had to have surgery
