This youtube recording is the reason I discovered Clifford Brown. A technician who understod the sensitivity and sophistication defining the idiom of jazz as an organized form, so far ahead of his time. I'm a lifetime student of Bach and contrapuntal music. Just like Bist du bei Mir, with its simplicity, melodic line and the sensitive arrangement of time/execution; this is a perfectly subtle memorial to a musical brother. Brilliant, moving and profound. I miss Clifford without knowing him.

For my money, Lee Morgan was the most soulful of the great jazz trumpeters.

My favorite Jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan,Clifford Brown would be smiling and crying to this emotional and lovely song dedicated to Mr.Brown. I will always remember Clifford, your art and spirit lives forever.

Lee Morgan could have permanently altered the way we understand jazz if he had lived longer. I believe this clip was made when he was starting off with Art Blakey, his later blue Note efforts where he was front man would indicate a maturing artist at heart. Magnificent and underrated, if he lived long enough he may have overshadowed Miles Davis.

Simply amazing. As far as I know, Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers did not record this song in studio. But thanks to KZbin, we can watch and listen to this rare video. Thank you for sharing.

Funny, I thought this was Clifford Brown when I was listening to this on the Martin Committee trumpet page on Blogger. Really nice.

One of the best. Fantastic technique, sound, power, and control all full of soul. The only other players that could match him are probably Freddie Hubbard, Booker Little, and CLIFFORD BROWN. Great tribute. Much love.

Ah this tune. Nobody who performs it dares fly above the clouds. It is always on the DL. Respect to the man who is eulogized in song. Mr.Morgan meets but never exceeds what Clifford Brown could have gone with these changes.

This song could be called "I remember Lee", he also died much too early. It's a pity guys like Lee Morgan, Clifford Brown or Booker Little died that early. Let's dedicate this song to all of them!

Respect. I think there is a spiritual, ancient being who lost his place as the maestro in heaven due to pride, who would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven. He is temporarily ruling the kingdoms of the earth and as a fallen Meistersinger is insanely jealous of any rival, even of carnal man. And so, the untimely ends of musical miracle men, Clifford Brown, Charles Christian, Wes, Chet, Charlie, and so forth.

Lee morgan plays the most beautiful obligatos I have ever heard...except maybe for Eric Dolphy. You can not learn to play like that at Jazz School.
