Paul brought that Dragon to my high school for an assembly in 2003 and let me and other kids hold and play it. Couldn’t believe he’d trust us with that thing. All he said was “just don’t break it. Thats a $30,000 guitar”. 😂 such a cool guy to do that in his community.

Man Paul sounds like an absolute legend. I remember being about 15 years old (I started playing at 6) and saw my dad's friend playing a proper American Strat. I'd never seen one before because nice guitars are very hard to come by where I live. Asked him if I could play a bit and he's like maybe when you're older. Hated that guy ever since :P Now that I'm older if a kid ever came up to me asking to play my guitars I'd be more than happy to let them play.

The SE line has single handedly made the entire industry produce a higher quality instrument. PRS used to be the only guitar I would buy online because I knew it could be set up perfectly.
@stoneysdead6898 ай бұрын
LOL- What rubbish- you're a fan boy junior. By the time the SE line came out there were already great guitars on the market for insane prices- Sire, Squier, Yamaha, etc. - those are the companies that pushed ppl to produce higher quality at lower prices- not PRS.
@bg902098 ай бұрын
@@stoneysdead689I work in the gear industry. When a PRS comes in, there’s no setup or cleaning to be done whatsoever. When any of those others come in, they usually look like they’ve been collecting dust in the box for a year or more and they need major intonation and truss adjustments. Especially Fender, those basically need revamped before they’re even put on the wall. And this is coming from a Fender fanboy, I’m just not gonna lie and say that PRS doesn’t have an easily noticable level of immense care that they take with their instruments. I’ve never seen that care be demonstrated by another company ever. Atleast not until you hit the ≈$2500 price range.

You are wrong. It depends on the seller. I bought 2 DGT SE at 2 different music stores, one was perfect adjusted, the other had a bow neck ……They all sound different. That is the problem with the SE line, you have to test a lot to find a really good one.

I remember back in the early 2000s, PMT in Birmingham (UK) had one of those Dragons in a glass cabinet with a list price of around £20-25K. Simply bonkers! Incredible craftsmanship. I remember looking at it for ages and admiring all the detail. Not my kind of thing, but amazingly impressive nonetheless. There's nothing else like it in the industry, and whilst I don't play a PRS, I respect them as builders so highly for this sort of attention to detail. They're true artisans👏🏼.

PRS makes some great guitars but imo for them to try and pretend they're one of the companies that deliver great quality at lower prices- is insane. That's just not PRS, never has been- and I don't believe it ever will be. Paul admits this himself- and makes no apologies about it- which is his prerogative but- they should stick to the script and not try to be something they're not. Him saying that for the same price of an SE back in the day all you could get was junk- that's just not true, at all. In fact, for far less than what you pay for an SE now- back then I could get a super Strat by Charvel or Jackson, I could get a Squier that used the exact same pickups as the most expensive Strat Fender sold at the time- those Squiers now sell for thousands of dollars because they have those pickups in them. Hell, I could get a real Fender Strat- not a knock off- for less than what an SE costs now. And someone would probably give you a tube amp back then- no one wanted them. Everyone wanted the new solid-state amps that were out- you know, the ones we all turn our noses up at now. I kick myself daily for selling, tearing up, and losing all my gear from back then- I could've been rich- for a few weeks. I had a phonograph that had a tube amp- four EL34s- it sounded great and was loud as hell. I remember my neighbors- who live about a 1/4th of a mile from our house- calling my parents and complaining. I had bought a Beatles album and had it cranked up playing Helter Skelter- first time I ever played along with an album and got it right- damn, I hadn't remembered that until now- crazy how stuff like that is stored in your brain and you don't even know it. It was a Harmony LP knock off- which was junk- and cost 75 bucks at the time. I saw one the other day for several hundred dollars- WTF? Harmony finally messed around and became a decent guitar, I guess. LOL- I bought mine from a Sears catalogue. What a crazy world.

Staggeringly expensive "historic" guitars for lawyers and similar to play about on at the weekend. From a business standpoint, it's smart for PRS to make/sell them, but they're still just a couple of humbuckers, a neck and a body. The SEs are every bit as good as functional instruments.

@@Just-Music-24-7 well let's take the dictionary definition "suitable for a beginner or first-time user; basic" As was mentioned in the interview, SE's are played by touring professionals. They're not beginner-only/basic instruments. Also mentioned in the interview (paraphrasing) "the £500-£1000 price point isn't your first guitar, it's your first proper guitar" PRS dropped the Student Edition tag years ago. I'm pretty sure it was even Jack H who said that in an interview. The early Santana SE's would absolutely fit the dictionary classification as "basic". They weren't deemed fit to even carry Smith's signature. Times have changed and PRS themselves don't view the current generation of SEs as basic beginner guitars. SE now just means SE. The student edition is historical.

For all the quality talk I’ve bought two SEs - a Paul’s guitar and a silver sky - both had issues. The Paul’s guitar had a loose fret at the 3rd fret and caused buzzing. Had to be pressed down, reglued and releveled. The silver sky buzzes at the 9/10/11 fret. And that’s each purchased brand new from sweet water after the “55 point inspection” - turns out they should have a 59 point inspection and check the 3/9/10/11 fret area. But yeah, not impressed. Want to be. I love my PRS special semi hollow. I love my Mira. Maybe I’ve had bad luck, but I ended up returning both guitars, even after my go-to-tech fixed the Paul’s guitar. Good luck and carry on. Hope you guys can live up to the promises.
