Leeks in Containers - Did they work??

I planted my leeks in a container in the North side of the garden back in May. I added a windbreak and later, cardboard tubes for light occlusion. Did it work?

I always grow leeks and they always succeed as long as they are Musselburgh variety. Anything else seems to rot with the onset of frosts. I grow them in the open ground and touch wood they do not ever seem to be attacked by slugs. Talking of slugs I have never seen so many as this year. I catch as many as I can and the birds eat them.

I'd never grown them before this year. Mine are also Musselburgh, but last year I couldn't get them beyond seedling stage. I think the increase in slugs is from our crazy wet weather we've had this year.

I tried last year and they didn't work, but I tried again this year and I was very happy with the results. They require patience, which I have in short supply sometimes. It's good a plant can remind me of that x

I think the littleness is their variety. They look great. When I plant mine, I just make their hole deep and not fill in the dirt around them because the video I had found when planting my first ones a few years back said to and that way there was no hilling involved. What is the difference in taste when made to go white or left green?

That's possible about the size, I don't know for sure. I haven't tried them yet (saving them for a dish later in the week), but I will certainly let you know ☺️
