Ok so I watched the video again and noted that u asked about the welcome thali . So here goes The thali has a couple of things 1. Diya or earthen lamp - Agni or fire God is a powerful Hindu god and is a part of all Hindu traditions . The other explanation is fire or heat is said to be a natural germ killer . So you are cleansed when u come into the house 2.Turmeric or haldi - again anti bacterial properties that cleanses u and protects u of germs 3. Chandan or sandalwood paste - has both cooling and medicinal properties . It cools your body as u walk into the house from the hot outside . 4. Flowers - a token of love . Something fragrant that makes u feel welcome Sometimes a little money or coins are also given as a welcome gift

It was Puran Poli Ivana. Puran Poli is traditional Maharashtra dish. You should try Puran poli ( served hot ) with pure ghee.

Bro that's dish of karnataka and maharashtra, here in North karnataka we grow lot of togari / towar dal, and puran poli (marathi)/ huran holigi (kannada) is made of stuffing wheat dove with jaggery and towar dal (lentil) mixture. we have it served hot with milk and ghee. Down south in karnataka puran poli (hurana holigi) is also called Vabbatu.

I visited Mumbai when i was kid and saw Hotel Leela from a street. It was too expensive for us and wanted to see side. Thank you for giving us a inside tour. Specially for showing the food! Ohh my god, this is a palace by any standards. This is other side of Mumbai. Very different than 'Slum Dog Millionaire '.

Yellow pancake type is obbattu, there are over 25 variety of them, what you ate I guess its basic version made of lentils You should try dry fruit obbattu

The egg plant curry is typical Maharashtrian dish. It's called BHARLELI VANGI meaning Stuffed brinjal/eggplant. Usal which was right besides it is another Maharashtrian comfort food made with green sprouts, sprouted moth beans, and some chick peas or black gram cooked into a spicy curry especially with lots of red pepper and traditional masalas/spices which includes seasame seeds and dried coconut . It is accompanied with an Indian bread like Bun or pav. If you're in Mumbai, try having it from some local restaurants... I am sure apart from the hotness you will like the taste. The one roti like dish after you had your fig pedha is called "PURAN POLI" another Maharashtrian desert made during festivals. It has a sweetened yellow lentils mashed up with cardamon and stuffed and rolled out into a roti. Poli is the Marathi name for roti. It is served with ghee or warm milk. Shrikhand is sweetened and flavorful hung curd.
