I've been taking leflunomide for about three months at the same time as weaning off prednisolone as treatment for polymyalgia rheumatica (prescribed by a rheumatologist). It certainly does the job of prednisolone but I may need to increase the dose a bit from the present 10 mg daily because the pain and stiffness have returned somewhat (although not as bad as before treatment).

It's me again. I did increase to 20 mg and it seemed to fix the polymyalgia rheumatitca symptoms but I'm just now recovering from a significant respiratory infection of yet unknown etiology. Leflunomide is associated with respiratory infections. Just be aware of this.

This was recommended for my dad to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Two days in and he is getting severe headaches. Is this the best option for him?

My mom was put on so many pills and was hard to tell if anything was helping but I do know they were hurting her and causing more problems, that they then wanna throw more pills at. Read into the results of clinical studies yourself and see if it seems worth the risks and side effects. Sadly, I’ve found most things she was prescribed had unconvincing clinical results. (Dr. Joe Dispenza’s books and meditations are good to be aware of.) best wishes

@@skittles2055So how does your mother fare with no treatment at all? Better? What should her doctors do? Meditate?

Would you do a detailed video about the molecules a Mast Cell produces? For well over 30 years, my "allergies" have gone from seasonal to anaphylaxis for all foods except soy, wheat, potato, and sugar. Along the way I have been to no fewer than 10 allergists and repeated skin testing, and possibly hundreds of doctors because of another problem that has caused me to spend no fewer than 350 overnights in hospitals and Emergency Rooms. Only upon MY OWN RESEARCH has any doctor considered a mast cell problem, and that allergist has referred me to yet another specialist. I found you channel when I was in med school, and Mast Cell Activation was never addressed. Please let others know the array of symptoms that these defenders can cause when they spill their contents inappropriately.

You can study Type 1 hypersensitivity Reactions in any good immunology book. Mast cells can be activated by Drugs(Codeine,Tubocurarine, etc) IgE-antigen cross linking on mast cell surface,Tissue damage,radiations,C3a,C4a,C5a.etc Activated mast release 1.Histamine which causes vasodilation and increases micro vasculature permeability leading to local edema formation. 2. Eosinophilic chemotactic factor and Neutrophilic chemotactic factors which attract eosinophils and Neutrophils to reactions site. 3.Prostaglandins PgC2 PgD2 PgE2 which cause anaphylaxis(bronchoconstriction and mucous secretion in lumen of bronchi, vasodilation and edema in bronchioles which further constrict the lumen) 4.Leukotriens which attract leukocytes(LTB4 is chemotactic factor for neutrophils) 5.Cytokines and chemokines(IL-1,IL-2,IL-4,IL-5,IL-6 etc. 6.Proteases which cleave complement protiens C3 and C5 producing C3a and C5a which are anaphylotaxons and stimulate mast cells to release more histamine etc.C5a attracts neutrophils. 7. Platelet activation factor(PAF).
