"Megumi" is actually a firefighter squad. In Edo-era Japan, there used to be 48 squads, named after each Japanese letter (i-gumi to n-gumi in iroha order, kinda like alpha team and so on). Me-gumi was one of the most infamous of them because of the big fight against sumo wrestlers it started, and its name used the most in fictional works. They are the most popular of all now, but not because they were good at their job, bizarrely.

Thundercraft, watching an obscure video about generations old, import only games is one of the nerdiest things you could do, you're learning about history and doing research about your interests in the past Then you mock someone who knows more and shares an interesting fact... I was one of the guys that evaluated Devil Hunter Yoko as well as Zero Wing. The games weren't brought to the US simply because no one got up off of it to make the deal.
@GameSack10 жыл бұрын
What do you mean got up off of it? Like nobody wanted to deal with an American distributor for those and wouldn't release the rights?

Game Sack The various companies that looked into buying the rights just never got around to those games.

I tell you one thing. When Summer 1991 rolled around and they had finished the Summer CES. The whole Genesis establishment kicked into overdrive and titles like Yoko, Zero Wing, Rainbow Islands, Midnight Resistance, Heavy Unit. Just got lost in the shuffle and fell by the wayside.

I loved Three Wonders in the Arcade. I remember just being blown away by it at the time. I started off with Midnight Wanderers. Then I played the Shooter which looked like it could be a sequel to Midnight Wanderers. Don't Pull was alright but I was looking for action with these games. I played Midnight all the way through the characters at one point sprouted wings and then it led into Chariot (the shooter) So Chariot really was a sequel to Midnight after all.

After we finished shooting the episode, Dave remembered that The Ignition Factor existed which, of course, is the second-best time to remember things (the best is actually after the video has been uploaded). We had to look it up really quick and make sure it was a different game so we didn't have to choose a new one and reshoot the opening segment of the episode as well.

There is an adapter that you can use that you insert Famicom games onto and then insert that into the NES. For Super Famicom games on the US SNES you need to dremel or file out the two little plastic tabs on the bottom/back of the cartridge slot so the JP carts can fit inside.

Ah, Three Wonders... That game was one of the seemingly endless games that made up my childhood! I remember playing Midnight Wanderers for hours on end, soaking in all the graphics and the simple, but charming story! Also, who knows, but I always cracked up when I blew up a Bomb block near a slime or a crocodile in Don't Pull. It was also VERY FRUSTRATING for me as I was only about 6 years old at the time. Definitely another underrated gem from Capcom.

Keio Yuugekitai Katsugeki Hen is by far the most astonishing 2D platformers on the Saturn, especially with the true transparencies that prove themselves by going threw both the backgrounds and characters. It even looks better than Psychic Killer Taromaru thanks to its higher resolution. And it is a huge bonus that it is significantly more affordable than said game.

I'm pretty sure the reason a lot of Saturn games didn't make it outside Japan is because of Bernie Stolar and the stupid anti-RPG and anti-2D policies he caused during the 32-bit era in the US market, which stopped a lot of good games from coming out.
@SapphireDensetsu11 жыл бұрын
That, and 2D was regarded as outdated in the US during much of the 1990s and 2000s...
@forrestweber6917 жыл бұрын
Anti-RPG?? I mean, both policies are dumb, but at least there's a reason for the anti-2D seeing as they wanted to demonstrate the power and capabilities of newer consoles. The person who concocted that bone-headed policy needs their head slapped off...

Great looking games! FYI, Three Wonders can also be found on Capcom Classics Collection 2 (I have it for the PS2 but it might have come out on other systems), along with some other awesome games (Sidearms, Strider, Street Fighter 2 Turbo...). I think I picked my used copy up from GS for for something like $8.

It's been a while since I bought imports but you can try forums at places like Sega-16 or whatnot. Devil Hunter Yoko won't need a Mega Drive and will run perfectly on a US Genesis. Most improts will, but there are a few that have region protection like Rockman and Thunder Force 4 and Monster World 4 and Pulse Man and a few others.

PAL's awesome ! we got the Amiga in the 16 bit era (as early as 1985) and it has an incredible game library ! games such as Stardust, Turrican 2, Traps'n treasures and the best versions of great lucasarts games make up for them (well, for me it does ;) ) and later we got PAL60 in the PS2/GC/XBOX era, the smoothness of NTSC with the great picture quality of PAL ! Europe is not so bad, you just have to look further than only consoles ;)

I once sold my saturn shinobi x and keio 2 for a pile of money and it seems that they are getting worth more by the year. I do regret the sale of Shinobi sometimes, but keio 2 is just a very average platformer. I recommend ripping the "in action-in action yeah" sample off the audio tracks and use it as alarm clock tune on your phone because it is hilarious. The European version was entirely translated. Even the counters and all descriptions on boards were now in Latin Alphabet.

That Keio 2 reminds me a lot of Dynamite Headdy, also a "platformer with shooting levels here and there" and "a great sense of humor." Visually, the indoor stages looks like the campy theater set and the factory from DH. The troublesome racoons remind me of Trouble Bruin, the cat bounty hunter who chases DH, and at 16:02 the broken skull looks like DH's evil boss symbol. Are these just coincidences, or is this worth looking further into?

With regards to the Dreamcast library, I claim that Europe got a better deal than North American territories (I say Europe rather than PAL since Australia got rogered). Even though NA got Seaman and SNK ports, they didn't get Shenmue 2 and Rez. And although NA got Virtual On; peculiarly the twin stick wasn't released there. Of course, on balance, the Japanese had it best, but they didn't receive MSR (odd since Tokyo was one of the cities), and the PAL Jet Set Radio was the best retail release.
